Hi

I have Office 2003 Pro on Windows XP. I have set up the handwriting recognition feature as per KB articles, however, I cannot get the "Write Anywhere" or "Writing pad" function to work, nor anything to do with handwriting recognition. I can get the drawing pad to work, but their is not handwriting recognition...I might as well open Paint Brush...about the same functionality.

Do you have to have a Tablet PC OS to make this work?

My Settings in Control Panel are:

  • Handwriting Recognition
    *Drawing Pad
    *Write Anywhere
    *Writing Pad

But the only one that works is Drawing pad. I click on the check boxes on toolbar for Writing Pad and Write Anywhere, but nothing happens, I can't write on a pad or anywhere else. If I click on the Write Anywhere or Writing pad, nothing happens, even though properties is not greyed out when WP and WA are highligted. If I click on the Add button, handwriting recognition and speech are both greyed out.

From what I've read, you shouldn't need Tablet OS to make these work. My client has a Wacom drawing pad that he wants to use with these technologies, but it just aint happening for us here.

Thanks in advance

Hi, I have the same problem. initially I thought it was just an install problem as it was common to 35 hp laptops with all the same image. But later I realised that another laptop which used to work wasn't doing handwriting either.

The only thing in common is that all the machines are up to date with their microsoft updates. I have found nothing on the web except ypur comment and one other set of 3 comments all with the same problem.

Other writing recognition software is working i.e penoffice.

any help would be appreciated if you have had any success
