When I am in Word, Excel, or Outlook (probably Access and powerpoint too) and I try to save or open a file, the program hangs for 30+ seconds before it shows me other files on my harddrive.

I'm not using a shared drive. I've defragged, cleaned the computer, deleted temp files and cookies, reinstalled the programs, and everything I could think of. When I open the task monitor as this problem occurs, I see that the svchost is running heavily, but I have no idea what that means.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't know if it applies in your situation, but it you have a network drive attached, and maybe even a printer or a network neighbourhood location that is currently enumerated, but offline eg a network drive to a computer that is offline, you experience this behaviour. If you saved your last document to a flash drive or something that is now disconnected you might experience this as well, but I'm not sure.

In any case check for any disconected network resources which may still be enumerated in Windows Exporer and delete or reconnect them and you should see an improvement.

Also, if you have a network share in your path statement or set as a homedrive, etc, that is unavailable, this can occur. Do you have a process monitor log that you can review of trying to save the file, just to see what the system is trying to do during this time?
