Strange post-sp1 video playback problem

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I run a laptop on our main TV as a media centre, and have all the video files (mainly xvid's) stored on a server 2008 box upstairs. Using a wireless network to communicate.

Up until installing SP1, everything was fine, however now every minute or so the video and audio will completely stop, stutter for about 10 seconds, then play normally until it does it again

I noticed that before SP1 windows would use about 1MB/sec network bandwidth for a few seconds, then almost none, then lots again, which I'm assuming is it buffering on a large scale. However, post-SP1 reveals a constant download rate of about 1.5Mbit/sec (which seems in line with the bitrate of the video files), and I believe that it is this more "streaming" approach rather than the large buffering approach that is causing this.

My question is: is there any way to change this? (WMP buffering settings have almost no effect), have tried uninstalling SP1, but the problem remains.

Anyone here got any ideas?
