I just set up a test Windows Server 2003 virtual environment, gave it a static IP which I assigned from our DHCP. I also created a virtual client which I want to connect to the server but for some reason it cannot detect the Domain Controller. I have a feeling it has something to do with DNS. Here's the info:

Server IP: 192.168.10.221

DG: 192.168.10.254

DNS: 192.168.10.221

ClientIP: 192.168.10.222

DG: 192.168.10.254

DNS: 192.168.10.221

Both are set statically. Some please help. Thanks.

When i have a problem like this its usually the firewall....have tried disabling it and see what happens?

The firewall is turned off. Still doesn't work.

it will depend on the type of Connection that the virtual systems have, if you can select the actual ethernet port of the box they are running on as their network adapter both should pick up an IP on the same range as your physical machine if you have a dhcp server. Im not very familiar with VMWare though so i dont know if what i am saying is possible (although im sure it is)

try it out and post back :)

Can you run nslookup against the DC from the client and get succesful output?

Can you browse to \\domaincontroller\SYSVOL ?

Can you browse to \\domainName\SYSVOL ?

Have you tried dcdiag on the DC?

Is this the only DC?
