Data Labels in a Chart Excel 2003

I am attempting to use 2 cell referances in a data label so that both cells show up in the label. I am attempting to use this formula

A8 B8

Event Timeline

=Info!$A$8&" "&Info!$B$8

output:

Event Timeline

which in a normal cell successfully mergers the info in to 1 cell.. however when I attempt to place the same formula in the data label an error occurs. Do data label on a chart not allow for formula?

Also is there a way to format the two ref cells separately?

I.E. I wish for my out put to look like this
