breadandbubbles Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 alright, a friend of mine recently purchased a laptop, sporting Windows Vista Home premium.he has the latest Internet Explorer.for some reason, i CANNOT get flash player to install.i go to the website, and everything goes as normal in the adobe download centre, i finally click install, and im moved to a new pageinstead of that yellow activx bar appearing at the top, asking for my permission to install the control, i get a yellow bar saying that the control has been blocked. theres an option "more information", which leads to a dead end. the status bar at the bottom jsut says 'error on page"my friend is also unable to do any online banking. he logs onto his banking service, and nothing happens. jsut..."error on page"ive spent days googling around. i ended up doing that activex test at pcpitstop? it didnt work. i didnt get the red 'x', just a blank square. the website states:"If you see a blank space, ActiveX is probably working properly, but not scripting."so i tried looking around for scripting solutions, but i have no idea what that means. following a number of instructions, i spent a lot of time in Internet Explorer's security settings, in the 'custom settings' window, enabling and disabling things.nothing made any difference.it was interesting, he does have adobe flash player in his add/remove. i uninstalled it and tried installing it again, to no effect.i dont know where to turn. can someone give me a lead?
breadandbubbles Posted January 25, 2008 Author Posted January 25, 2008 i know its only been a couple of hours, but i really need help with this. does anyone know anything about activex controls in vista?
cluberti Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 What happens if you open a command prompt as administrator (start > programs > accessories, right-click "Command Prompt" and choose the "Run as Administrator" option), then type "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" to open IE as an administrator, then try the install?
breadandbubbles Posted January 25, 2008 Author Posted January 25, 2008 wow. thats a GREAT idea.unfortunately, i dont have access to his PC right now.i'll give that a shot the next time i can.in the meantime, i jsut threw Opera at him.he doesnt like new things, but Opera is amazing, and the interface is very similar. he doesnt have any spyware protection either, so im hoping Opera'l help a bit.he loved that speedial thing.and flash player installed jsut fine in opera.man...im really bad with the 'jsut''s!
