Bad boy Warrior Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 In a test environment i have setup DHCP on a server. On the client machine i attempt to log on and check to see if all the settings are being applied. On my first attempt only some settings are applied. On second attempt all settings are applied. Later on i decided to do an Ipconfig /all and the settings change - below is what i have setup (one server manages DNS, DHCP on is the test domain):Server side settings (DHCP under scope options)Router: 192.168.1.1DHCP: 192.168.1.2DNS: 192.168.1.2DNS Domain name: Test.localWins: 192.168.1.2Client SettingsRouter: 192.168.1.1DHCP: 192.168.1.1DNS: 192.168.1.1DNS Domain name: Test.localWins: 192.168.1.2Can there be a reason why the settings in bold change? Is there a way from group policy to do something about this? Thanks
cluberti Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 you wouldn't happen to have a router on that LAN that is trying to do DHCP and DNS? Most home and SMB routers do this by default...

I have some clients using that router to connect to the internet too anything i need to do to keep them having access to the internet? or would it all be fine? Thanks
cluberti Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Unless you have a way to segment the LAN in such a way that the clients using the router for DHCP do not have contact with the test DHCP server, you can only have one DHCP server on your LAN and expect this to work. I would instead suggest that you manually configure the IP address and DNS servers on your clients that are currently using the router (so they no longer need to use DHCP), and then stop that on the router.
