hing_hk Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Hi all,These is a novice's questions. I have checked out the Microsoft web site but the explainations there are rather cryptic. In a distinguished name: CN=Dan Holme, OU=Employees, DC=Contoso, DC=com.1)What is the CN? Is it the name of User?2)What is DC? Is it the name of the domain? if so why there are two? What is the second one?Thank you.
cluberti Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 CN=Common NameDC=Domain ClassCN=<whatever> is also the object's Relative Distinguished Name, or RDN.
fizban2 Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 CN is the Users Full Name, which is the combination of the First name, last Name and Initials fields. DC is your Domain that the AD is located in. in the case above it is the Contoso.com domain, each section requires a DC= tag, so if you have Corp.Contoso.com you would get DC=Corp,DC=Contoso,DC=com
