heffalump Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 (edited) I found this useful utility and thought it might be nice to share itDesktop Restore - Download .msiCommand Line version Desktop Icon Save and Restore Platform Windows 2000, XP (VISTA? You tell me...) File Size 188K bytes License Freeware Author Jamie O'Connell Description Save and restore the layout of the Windows desktop icons. I found it while looking to find out how to save a custom layout for a slipstreamed CD. You can save the settings and then add to registry later. If anyone knows actual XP registry settings (or other file settings?) where XP stores icon location info I'd appreciate it! Edited December 1, 2007 by heffalump
DigeratiPrime Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Ive been using this for a while, originally saw it as an addon at the ryanvm forums. However I did not know it has since been updated! :-)23 November 2007 – Version 1.5.1: Combines the Restore Custom… and Save Custom… dialogs into a single Custom Save and Restore… dialog, and adds the ability to Delete a layout.21 September 2007 – Version 1.5: Adds the Restore Custom… and Save Custom… dialogs, and changes the restoring algorithm for drastically better results. As for your question the registry settings are stored here:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JOConnell\DeskTop
