heffalump Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 (edited) I followed one tutorial here which let me make a direct x9.0c unattended installer, simply by repacking the redist package and using dxsetup.exe /silent inside the package. Now this got me thinking. Can't I do exactly the same thing with winrar (or winzip) using self extracting archives and setting them to execute the relevent file when they unpack? What is the benefit of using 7zip? Sorry if this is a noob question I am very noob since I only started to look at slipstreaming yesterday! Edited November 28, 2007 by heffalump
Arie Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 If you prefer WinRAR, that is fine as well. The advantages of 7-Zip are that it's freeware, whereas WinRAR is shareware, and 7-Zip can compres files better than WinRAR, but the result in filesize won't differ that much. Choose which ever you prefer.
