Win2003R2 DC and Win2003 DC

Hi All,

I have a fully working Win2003 (std not R2) DC and Active Dir and an New Win 2003 R2.

On tryind to dcpromo the New R2 box i get the Active dir error which means i have to use the disk to adpromo tool.

What box do i use it on and how.

Do i use the R2 adpromo (on disk 2) t=on my Original DC ???

Just a bit confused and dont want to get it wrong :-)

You are correct - you must update the AD schema with the R2 extensions before you can install R2 on any of your DCs.

So i run the R2 disk to adpromo on my original DC, will this do anything to be worried about.

Have just a system state backup, just to be safe

Well, it extends the schema with the R2 extensions. It's nothing to be worried about, per se, but it is always good to have a backup .
