Creating Pivot chart from pivot table data

I am trying to use Excel 2003 to create a pivot chart from pivot table data and I get the following message:

"You cannot use an XY (Scatter), Bubble, or Stock chart type with a chart that has been created from PivotTable data. Please select a different chart type."

I am not finding much information on it other than the fact that Microsoft knows it's an issue but they don't have any fix for it. Here's there link:

Has anyone ever run into this and found a solution?

I need to have the full functionality of the pivot table using a scatter chart. Currently I have to use Excel 97 (which is the only version that has this functionality) to create the table, save it and open it up in 2000 or later.
