Dear all,

I'd like to reinstal windows XP in my notebook.

Unfortunately the internal CD/DVD does not work anymore.

I would like to know if someone of you have an Acer and know if it can boot from USB.

I cannot check it right now in the BIOS and I have to buy urgently the USB divise.

If it not possible using an USB device, How can I reinstall?????

Backup drive if necessary. May be useful to backup all the drivers with something like Driver Genius from http://www.driver-soft.com/

Extract HD from laptop & connect it to another PC - you could use a 2.5" enclosure assuming the connectors are standard.

Create two partitions - first the main big partition to install Windows to, and another 1GB(?) or so (FAT32) to hold the Windows installation CD.

Copy Windows CD (or just the i386 directory) to the second smaller partition.

Boot with suitable boot floppy from http://www.bootdisk.com/

From the i386 directory, run "winnt".

I really hope that i can reboot using USB because this other method sound quite complicated...at least to me that I'm really unskilled with computers hehe...
