I'm having problems at work regarding computers (Windows XP) connecting to a shared and mapped network drive. We use this Linkstation hard-drive.

I've created this script which logs that user on automatically, the BAT file looks like this:

net use L: \\ls-gl65c\share /user:PERSON PASSWORD

This all works good (see post-149117-1186087462_thumb.jpg).

However, when the user access the mapped drive in explorer.exe it hangs for what feels like ages. I noticed that in Task Manager it loads upto about 140,000K (see post-149117-1186087453_thumb.jpg)until it snaps into life again. Then you can navigate through a few folders and it gets stuck again.

I have though about creating a new share on the hard-drive and moving all the files across to find out if this is solves the problem but it'll cause a lot of disruption so I'm leaving it as a last resort at the moment. I've tried removing the virus-scanner and related security suite and yet still the same problem. The users who access the drive, use AutoCAD to work on drawings, the usual Office applications and in those applications they can navigate properly through the mapped drive with no problems at all so I assume it has to be explorer.exe that's the problem here.

Anyone who can help, I'd greately appreciate it. If you've had this problem before or know a way of fighting it then do come on down!!

Thanks.

try doing the exact same thing in safe mode with networking and see what happens then maybe you can narrow the cause of the problem down a little :)
