napajejenunedk0 Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 1) Discussion is about:--------------------------[1]> OS: Windows Vista Business Edition.[2]> Establishing a PPPoE connection.2) Problems:---------------[1]> The speed of the internet connection and transfer rate are greatly lowered in comparison with the provided such by the ISP.This problem is observed during file download, playing media online, videoconferencing, etc.[2]> Automatic disconnecting while doing nothing to provoke a response of the Vista's networking system of that kind.More detailed explanation:----------------------------- The NIC is manufactured by Gembird and is equipped with Realtek chipset. In fact that was a very polemic circumstance. The drivers that the manufacturer provided were compatible only with versions of Windows <= XP but the chipset supplier of the LAN adapter mentioned above had already ensured a driver supporting the latest MS OS. So ... When running Windows XP SP2 AutoPatched connecting through a WAN Miniport wasn't a problem but...then came Vista. At first I was prejudiced of incompatibility of the most of my hardware components and mainly of the NIC. Immediately after installing Vista I got the drivers needed for the main components of my computer system and made a PPPoE connection without any drivers manually installed (I used the adjective "manually" because I did not make Windows search automatically for the LAN adapters and subsequenty searching for drivers for such, nor I made an attempt of manual install of the drivers needed for recognizing the NIC.) I was immediately granted access to the Internet with the provided by the ISP speeds of the connection. Later on Vista found automatically Realtek driver for the LAN adapter: Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC..., not the Gembird one. The drivers weren't problematic and everything was going fine with the PPPoE connection. The mentioned above problem occured after some days and what I only found was that: - the problem is not concerned about the ISP (the speed was tested on a Windows XP laptop) - couldn't make connection and hence establishing connection in Safe Mode - a guide for configuring PPPoE under Windows XP in a another ISP homepage was informing that the "Service Name" field in "Connection Properties" should be equal with the ISP's name but I thought the "Connection Name" should be such; in fact the "Connection Name" wasn't constraining the availability of connectiveness or the connectivity itself; when filling the "Service Name" field the state message while connecting changed from "Connecting through WAN Miniport (PPPOE) ..." to "Dialing $ISP_Name$". After filling the field with the value provided the chance of getting connected dropped to zero.
