Advice Needed

I need a bit of advice here. I'm currently running XP MCE, and want to preform a full install of XP Pro with a newly formatted/partitioned HD. However, I've heard a few horror stories concerning this route i.e., unable to access the internet, no sound, the blue screen of death, etc etc. I spose it's related to hardware specific drivers only found in MCE. Should I attempt this and hope for the best, or simply order the restore discs from HP?
