Wijono Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 There is apparently a bug in XP where if you switch from the Windows XP theme to a saved theme based on the Windows XP theme, the background of the Menus on the Menubar of some programs such as Notepad, Calculator, etc. will be in white boxes, different than the surrounding.Mentioned in many websites, Keith Miller has brilliantly found what is causing that behavior, i.e., when you apply a saved theme via the Display Properties dialog. XP incorrectly clears a bit in the UserPreferencesMask that should be set; as a result the Menubar will adopt the 3D instead of Flat Menu, as it should. And that seems to be the result of [Control Panel\Colors] and [Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics] in the saved .theme file. He even came up with a solution script “Toggle 3D Menus.vbs” that can correct the problem. Great!!The drawback is that each time you switch to another saved theme, you will have to apply the script “Toggle 3D Menus.vbs” to correct the bug. It would have been ideal, if we could patch the .theme file that way, so that it will properly set the bit in the UserPreferencesMask. It is hence a challenge for those of you that know about theme file to overcome that problem.Who will start please?
