Error 0x800705AD Insufficient quota to complete the requested service

I'm trying to copy files FROM a Windows VISTA Business laptop to a Windows XP Home Edition shared drive.

I can copy thousands of small fiels (< 1 MB or so) all day long. However, if I try to copy larger files (> 6+ MB or so), it may or may not work. When it does fail, I get:

Error 0x800705AD Insufficient quota to complete the requested service

There are NO quotas in place anywhere.

The irony is that it is NOT consisent. I might get this error on a 9 MB file, then a few hours later, that same file might copy just fine.

For instance, I tried to copy an 72 MB file yesterday, and got this error. Today, I just finished copying a 600+ MB file AND a 160+ MB file, SUCCESSFULLY. Then, trying a 70 MB file failed with this error message.

I don't know for sure, but suspect I could reboot and then successfully copy the 70 MB file.

It's crazy. Any all help much appreciated.

TIA! - John

OK, more feedback.

I rebooted my VISTA laptop and tried again. Despite my previously stated expectations, it did NOT work.

I then rebooted the XP Home Edition DESKTOP and tried again, and it DID work.

Is this truly an XP Home Edition issue? Anyone have a viable solution?

TIA!

The error you are seeing is related to SRV work item quota, not a quota on disk or any other resource:

ERROR_WORKING_SET_QUOTA

How are you copying these files? Is it through Windows Explorer, or some other file copy utility? Also, are these machines on a wireless LAN, or connected via a wired switch or hub? There are a few things in Vista which may affect the issue - UAC can be involved, as can Windows Defender. If you disable both of those temporarily, do the file copy issues persist? Also, have you made sure that you've uninstalled your antivirus product, to make sure that we aren't seeing a VirtualLock() issue here from the product's filter driver? The only other thing I would suggest you try is using an application other than Windows Explorer to copy the files, like robocopy from the resource kit, and see if the problem reproduces using that utility as well.
