Hi guys noob question here:

I have 2 servers, a PDC and a BDC.

I want the BDC to completelty take over if the PDC goes down.

I know how to set AD, DHCP, DNS and (DFS or FRS, users files will be stored on a seperate data partition from the OS on the PDC and replicated across to the BDC)

Its the software on the PDC im worried about Especially MDaemon, which is the companies mail server. Do i have to install and configure this on both servers (which means purchasing 2 copies?) and im unclear about how DFS or FRS would go about replicating users email accounts. Would i Install Mdaemon to a folder thats being replicated to the BDC ? Does Mdaemon install things like registry entries ? or can the whole program folder just be replicated across to the BDC and work straight off the bat ?

heh confusing.

Thx for your time.

are these 2003 server? if so there is no PDC and BDC anymore, they are both just DCs. as for software, either your software needs to have the ability to fail over to another box that has the same software installed (either stand alone boxes or in a clustered instance if the software supports it) Mdeamon did not look like it had any clustering ablility or failover features to work on multiple machines. you would need to check with the vendor of each application to see if they are clusterable or have failover features
