DrkInsanity Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I have a question regarding XP's user login options. It used to be that when I turned my computer it, and automatically logged in as my account (because I'm the only account on this computer, as I'm the only one who uses it). However, it's started happening that I have to click my name on some welcome screen, which is inconvenient because often I turn on my computer so it can start loading up while I do something else. Now I have to wait for it to load the welcome screen, then click something so it loads my user settings. Also, now when I press Ctrl+Alt+Del some other screen comes up before I can go to the task manager. I have checked the User Accounts settings on the Control Panel, and cannot find anything to change it back to how it was; just different login settings. I want it so I don't have to "login" at all!Can anyone tell me how to change it back to how it was? It would be much appreciated!
Idontwantspam Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 (edited) What does the new login screen look like? Does it look like this?If so, go to User Accounts control panel, click "Change how users log on and off" and make sure that "Use the welcome screen" and "Use Fast User Switching" are checked. See if that helps. Then reboot and see if you log on automatically. If not, then do this:Press StartClick RUNType "control userpasswords2"Uncheck "Users must enter username and password to use this computer"Click OKEnter your username and password when promptedClick OKRebootYou should log in automatically now. Note that I do not recommend logging in automatically, and am of the opinion that everyone should use the Windows 2000 style log-on box, and should have a good password. But you asked, so I'm telling. Edited July 3, 2007 by Idontwantspam
