the_observer Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Hi all,I have my 2 pc's (with win xp pro) connected in a small network with a crossover cable.I use pc A.Pc B is used to do minor jobs such as for example share my internet connection for both pc's ,play music e.t.c.What i want to do is to use remote desktop so i can control pc B from pc A.In both computers i log in as administrator and i have put same name and password for both of them. When i run remote desktop on A it asks me to enter the remote computer name.So i put the lan adress of computer B for example : 192.168.1.2(Is this correct?)After ,it asks me for username and password. So i do this . Have in mind that user name and password are the same for both pc's with administrator right. And then i get this error :From what i have read around the net probably i have to set the correct rights on pc B.But why is that? Since i have enabled remote desktop on pc B it says that the name of the administrator (which is the same with pc A) is already allowed to remote desktop .Anyway ,i then try to insert a new user on pc B with the rights to do remote desktop .But as you will see in the below picture there is no indication of pc A.Only pc B is shown to choose from (MIKROS is the name of pc B).Why is this?Should not i see in this window pc A also since these 2 pcs are networked together? So what would you advice me to do?Thx 4 reading this and sorry if i tired you but i tried to be detailed so maybe you can help me.The_Observer.P.S. I have searched this forum but unfortunatelly i didnt spot a solution for this
Ambiance44 Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 There are a couple of things which you might want to look at here:1. Are you sure the IP address of computer B is 192.168.2.1? If you don't have a DHCP server service running somewhere, you'll need to assign static IP addresses to computers A and B.2. Make sure you don't have a blank password for the account(s) that you're using for remote desktop. Windows XP doesn't like blank passwords over remote desktopIf you've got high speed internet (cable, DSL) then it might be easier for you to get a home router. Those are very inexpensive and relatively easier to set up.

(but i am not sure cause i only read some quides over the net on how to connect 2 pc's and that is how i did it.I dont remember saying something about dhcp server.)2. Those are very inexpensive and relatively easier to set up.Ignore my ignorance (maybe) but i really dont see why i need a router. Both pc's are connecting ok.I am able to transfer files between them and see each other. Also both computers connect to the internet quite well (through pc B )I just want to remote desktop pc B through pc A Any other ideas on what i should do?Thx for trying to help mate.The_Observer.
