  1. Hi,

integration to i386 does not seem to work as expected. Did not have this problem with 4.x branch.

The procedure I usually follow is to apply XPize to XP CD and then run nLite over it to remove stuff.

With XPize 5, it complains about several files (eg. syssetup.dll, uxtheme.dll etc) and even though the procedure finishes, the created CD does not install properly.

XP version I tried all this with was x32 Greek w/ SP3.

  2. Try deleting thumbs.db.

I understand what is mentioned in Tweak UI. However, I am talking about newly-created thumbnails. I even tried to remove every thumbs.db file I could find after modifying the setting, just to make sure they will be re-created. Same problem.

I repeat that this setting appears to work just fine under XP x64. Same procedure was followed.

One more note: Even it does not work, I am able to view the thumbnail in the correct quality if I right-click on it and choose 'Refresh thumbnail'. Yet they are not created with high quality in the first place, and it is obvious that it is impossible to manually refresh each and every one of them. Also, even after refreshing in high quality (and thumbs.db is re-created), if I close the window and re-open it, I still see them in low-quality. It seems to me as a CLEAR Windows XP x32 bug.

  3. Hi,

I have just tried to set the two DWORDS affecting thumbnail size and quality under XP. Unfortunately, ThumbnailQuality does not seem to work. No matter what value I set it to be, thumbnail view in Explorer always shows low quality thumbnails.

PLEASE NOTE: that I have tried this in 64-bit Windows XP and works just fine.

Has anyone experienced this? Any help would be appreciated.

  4. Hi,

just installed Vista x64 SP1 over a fresh installation. Everything OK, except for one thing:

I can't download ANYTHING under IE7. Here is the message:

"internet explorer cannot download ..... from ......"

"internet explorer was not able to open this internet site. the requested site is either unavailable....."

    any help would be appreciated

  5. Hi,

I have created my usual nLite installation for XP32 SP2, with which I had no problems whatsoever in the past, not even event log errors. But recently, I tried to install an Asus utility, called AI Suite, which monitors/sets various system variables (FSB etc). This one doesn't work, and here is its complaint:

"Invalid class string". Then it ends.

Here is my nLite config, and I would appreciate if someone has faced the same issue and knows what not to remove:

  6. Hi all,

I have an external Seagate FreeAgent 750GB HDD, and trying to use it via the eSata interface. The problem I am facing is that, it hangs when trying to copy a large (>3GB) file TO it from my main disk.

It will seriously hang, the computer becomes unresponsive (the mouse works, but can't start any program at all, not even an explorer window).

In smaller files (650MB) there is no problem. Also, there is no problem when using the USB interface (although I haven't tested it thoroughly).

The motherboard used is an Asus P5K Deluxe. I have experienced this problem in Windows XP AND Windows Vista.

    Any help?

  7. Hi all,

I use Windows XP x64, but it seems to me this topic might be of interest to other versions of the OS (perhaps except Vista).

I was always wondering why there aren't any Intel CPU drivers available. I really cannot understand, for example, how a 6-year-old OS as Windows XP x32 can fully utilize the power of an Intel Core 2 Quad without any drivers, since almost all current processors did not exist at the time the OS became available. Not to mention the case where someone wants to install Windows 2000. Or consider the scenario where someone bought such a hardware and wishes to install a Server OS like Windows 2000 Adv. Server or Windows 2003 Server. Full utilization of the multiple cores and other features is trivial.

Of course they recognize the multiple cores (or P4s with HT) but is this enough? How about all the other new technologies and power consumption features? Is SpeedStep the same as it was 6 years ago? How about virtualization features?

AMD seems to have drivers available. At least for power issues like Cool 'n' Quiet.

I will never be sure that my CPU (Core 2 Quad - Q6600) performs the best it can if I won't have a specific driver for it.

    Any comments?

  8. Hi all,

I created an nLited XP x64 SP2, which works fine. Except for one thing: Under device manager, I have a yellow exclamation mark for the following device:

Audio device on High Definition Audio Bus

I am confused, and here are the reasons:

    1. Audio works fine. It's a SoundMax Integrated Digital HD Audio. Drivers are integrated using nLite, and they work just fine.

    2. This is supposed to be an issue addressed by patch KB901105, which is INCLUDED in XP x64 SP2, which is the original CD I am using.

    3. Normal XP x64 installation from the original CD works just fine (ie. no excl. mark)

    4. Manually re-installing audio drivers (ie. from the motherboard's driver CD) after nLited OS installation does not solve the problem.

    5. Trying to integrate KB901105 using nLite gives me an error like 'This hotfix is not compatible with this OS'.

    6. Trying to run KB901105 complains (properly) that there is no reason to install it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  9. Thanks,

however it doesn't work. It gives me a 'This device is not configured correctly (code 1). Not to mention that the driver will not install automatically (only if I choose manual 'Have disk' and ignore the warnings).

Any idea what the heck is going on?

Btw, I thing we are following the wrong approach here. No matter if it works or not, the big question is, WHAT exactly is being removed by nLite causing all these problems? I havent seen anything relevant during nliting. Perhaps we should not remove Sound drivers?

  10. Thanks to all,

indeed, including the AMD support solved it. This sucks ;)

I have one minor issue remaining. I get the usual "Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio" device problem. IrfCore, I have read a post of yours on thehotfixshare regarding the integration of KB901105, but haven't been able to reproduce it. I tried integrating the hotfix with nlite, and it complains that it is created for a DIFFERENT OS, which is obviously wrong (nuhi should have a look at this...). And of course, running the hotfix just complains that it should not install itself since there is SP2 present.

I suppose the issue is to integrate hdaudbus.sys to the CD. Any help?

  11. Hi,

been trying to create an nLited XP x64. I am familiar with the procedure and what to avoid, yet I'm stuck here with a couple of issues. Could nuhi or someone else please help.

    1. It seems I am losing Intel processor driver. Instead of seeing 4 processors (I have a Core 2 Quad 6600) nder Device Manager, I get unknown devices.

I have NOT removed neither 'CPU Intel' nor 'Multi-processor support'.

    2. I also receive DCOM error 10016 described earlier in the forum. Can solve this manually after installation, but the point is to find out how this is happening in the first place. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    3. Tried to integrate Internet Explorer 7, and I get an 'Access denied' error when trying to open Internet Options.

Finally, I have to repeat that I've been creating XP x32 nlites for a while now, and never had a problem. I am -more or less- removing the same components every time, haven' changed anything.

    Thanks

  12. Hi all,

I have created a nLited Windows MCE for my HTPC. All fine, except that my Microsoft Remote Control does not seem to work. I get an error when I plug it in, Windows tries to install an 'eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard' and asks for kbdjpn.dll (which is not included in the installation as I have added only my own language).

Any help on what NOT to remove?

  13. Hi all,

I've created a fine nLite installation, except for one minor issue. I accidentaly checked to remove 'application compatibility patch' and it was too late when I noticed it (I had configured my system in detail). Now I get the usual "Database error" in event log. I was wondering, is there a manual way to restore this (eg by registry modification or by downloading something) for me to avoid recreating my nLite installation and reinstalling it?

  14. Guys,

I have worked things out. The solution was FAR more surprising than expected. I am posting this for everyone's information, perhaps nLite developers should examine this further.

The machine has a Logitech QuickCam Communicate USB camera. Whilst its driver was integrated, it did not install properly (although it seemed to do so inside a test VMware guest). Anyway, as I previously mentioned, the WLAN was inactive (a red X icon). At some point, I decided to remove the USB camera for another reason. THE MOMENT i removed it, VOILA!!!! Wireless LAN connected, DHCP negotiation started (I remind you, the camera is NOT properly installed at this point)

I repeated this several times. When I plug the camera in, WLAN gets disconnected. When I remove it, it comes back. Amazing, isn't it?

I still haven't tried to install the camera and then see what happens with WLAN, I will post again any new findings.

  15. At first, thanks for the response and for the time you spent writing so detailed comments...I appreciate it.

However, I am terribly sorry for I think I posted the WRONG INI file.... I am attaching the proper one now. Sorry about that. :P

In any case, I have to mention I am not a novice user. I completely understand what I am doing/selecting. I am thoroughly testing the nLite's I create, and I am completely happy about them.

I would expect a comment on the original problem of my first post, though.

    Thanks anyway

  16. Hi all,

I have come across a strange situation. I have created a nLite minimal installation, which works fine, except for the wireless part. Here is some info:

    1. The wireless adapter is a Linksys WMP54GS

    2. nLite CD is created with WLAN and DHCP support.

    3. Wired LAN works fine. DHCP works fine.

    4. I have tried with another WLAN adapter (LevelOne WNC-0301USB), and it connects fine (it connects properly even when using WPA or WPA2).

    5. The exact same adapter on this machine used to connect fine to my AP before installing nLited XP.

    6. I have tried without integrating the Linksys driver, and following Linksys' instructions (they mention that their software+driver should be installed before plugging in the adapter). No luck.

I attach my INI file. Any help would be appreciated.

  17. Not really mate. I'm just surprised about what I'm reading: None of the customizations applied, so weird. I will compare 4.3 and 4.4 code to see which change may be the responsible of that. By the way, is 4.3 fully working where 4.4 is not?

Hi XPero, thanks for the reply (of course I meant 'hint' and not 'hit' :P ). I have been trying to locate the problem, and I have found something that may be causing this, and I am posting this just FYI. Perhaps the problem is caused by ANTIWPA which is installed on this computer. I have tried to do a clean XP installation and apply XPize before ANTIWPA, and seems to work fine.

Btw, on my laptop I have set the power icon in the system tray to be always on (ie. the one that looks like a plug/battery). It would be nice if XPize would change this as well (it is still the old 16-color icons).

  18. No nothing has been installed after XPize. This is a fresh XP+SP2 installation, with no patches-updates applied. However XPize does not work properly. I have tried to install it on my laptop and it is fine. It must have something to do with the specific hardware of my desktop PC. Perhaps XPero should give us a hit here :}

  19. Hello,

I have just tried to install the latest XPize in my fresh XP+SP2 installation. After the reboot, it complains that it was not able to update 28 files (and it says they will be updated after reboot). However after many reboots each time the same message appears. And of course some files are not updated (for example, Internet Options in IE6 still shows the old icons).

Any help would be greatly appreciated
