  1. has any1 do this yet ?

im after backing up my windows 7 activation incase in the future im required to format my pc.

last thing i wish to do is use the phone/online method. so is it possible to back it up in windows 7?

have tried using the same method as vista but that didn't work. any help would be great, thanks.

  2. i just had this issue with my own system after switching from 2gig memory to 4gig memory (4x1gig) and moved to vista x64 from vista x86.

ended up being my motherboard wasn't supplying enough power to my dimms when all 4 dimm ports where populated.

i added an extra 0.1v to my memorys default 1.7v and it was all smooth sailing from then onwards.

not sure if this is your case though. best of luck.

  3. C&C GENERALS+ZERO HOUR(FIRST DECADE) works perfectly here on my sons pc. standard affair.

Lost Planet (DX9) works perfectly, (DX10) has issues starting 50% of times (crashes to desktop)

    his specs are

    P5WDH-DLX

    2gig 800mhz corsair

    nvidia 8600gt

    300gig maxtor sata2 drive

    LG (whatever) dvdrw drive sata

    windows vista home premium (x86) + sp1

again game runs fine without errors/crashes/bugs that i've noticed.

all drivers are the latest for both motherboard & graphics.

  4. i had this issue on TOSHIBA 80-132 laptop, even after uninstalling all IE7 addon's and resetting IE7 back to its defaults it would still lockup when using IE on certain sites, other sites were fine to browse, still had same issue using my factory recovery point before any updates were installed.

i was unable to resolve it and eventually did a complete clean installation and everything seemed fine after that.

sorry i couldn't help, but i know that problem your having, it was a right bugger for me.

  5. sorry i should of been more clear with my comments,

games he plays are UT2004/Cs/Quake3 and they all run perfectly on xp

but under vista theres what i can only describe as ingame lag, even when not playing a game and just generally browsing and moving windows around on the desktop hes getting lag moving the windows about asif the GPU driver wasn't even installed.

(asif you just installed xp and not installed the gfx driver) thats type of lag if you understand.

im aware Vista installs for 915GM GPU chipsets a XPDM driver due to intel not doing the WDDM driver by default. but why the hell cant they release a optimized driver for the chipset GPU even if it isn't going to be WDDM driver verified.

hope this explains things slightly better.

am after a desent driver or something that will help resolve it thankyou.

btw system (laptop is very fast using vista business x86) so its not that it cannot handle it, it can and does very well.

  6. im not after aero or any candy, all im after is a blinking optimized driver for the GPU

hes my story, just bought 2 new laptops (4 months old) and there HP 510 centrino 770 models (2.13gig) + (1gig memory)

both xp and vista runs like a dream with them, needless to say nice and fast.

drivers for laptops for both OS's are there except the Intel 915GM onboard GPU which is bog standard generic driver from MS for vista.

the problem is, its not optimized for gaming, im aware Intel will not release a WDDM driver for the chipset, but why the hell cant there release a driver to allow it to function correctly within vista.

the GPU on the laptop plays all the games my son plays and plays them more than well enough.

im not after aero candy just a full functional GPU !

has anyone found a way or a driver that is optimized for gaming on this Intel GPU ?

    thankyou.

  7. Am having exact same issue myself, for months my systems been perfectly fine then recently getting BSOD due to "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT" or "IRQ_NOT_EQUAL"

have tested my memory each stick for over 22hrs total running memtest and both sticks pass flawlessly.

all drivers are latest and working error free to my knowledge.

oh before i forget am Running Vista Business 32bit OEM (original and activated)

    my system specs are:

    Intel E6600

    Asus P5W DH DLX/Wifi-Ap

    2x1gig Corsair XMS2 800MHz DDr2

    BFG 8800GTOC

Maxtor sata2 300gig *primary* (AHCI mode)

WD sata2 500gig (aaks model) *file storage* (AHCI mode)

    sony dvdrw x18sp.

    Coolmaster stacker case.

    580w HiperX

Another possibly related issue is this:

now this is strange so read carefully:

on cold boot my system will boot into vista fine, once i do the usual cache cleaning/disk cleanup/ Defender scan my system will BSOD !!!

the EXACT same thing will happen if i switch my system off and unplug it from the wall for over 10mins !!

but once that first BSOD has happened it doesn't happen again, any help here ?

thought it could be my PSU at first but tested and working perfectly fine and it doesn't ever happen in Xp.

  8. right long story short i bought new gfx cards 2x 1950xtx cards to test out before i desided on new r600 coming out or getting a set of 8800gtx cards.

good idea as cards can go into my kids pc when i do make the move and upgrade mine fully.

well clean install of vista and disabled UAC, intel chipset installation, then i went to bang on the new ATi 7.3ccc drivers.

drivers installed perfectly till i rebooted and i got a BSOD

rebooted again and it dropped me auto to f8 screen, where from there i decided to go and start pc in low res screen mode (used to be called vga mode in xp) LOL system booted up without the BSOD, i then went around setting up gfx cards desktop res and soso.

once i finished all that i rebooted again (at this point hoping and praying i will not BSOD again) and bingo straight into vista fine.

been running vista ultimate 32bit with ati 7.3ccc now for 2days complete without further problems or BSOD

games such as cs.16/supreme commander/Quake4/BF2/BF2142/prey all working fine and without a problem.

so if anyone else is having a issue with ati drivers and vista give it a shot and let me know if it works for you in this way or let me know i was just **** lucky.

    system specs are:

    Asus P5W DH/WiFi DLX (board)

Intel e6600 cpu + Freezer 7 pro HSF (air)

    2x 1gig Corsair XMS2 800MHz DDR2 (memory)

    2x ATi X1950XTX by Connect3D using ATi 7.3 cats

    1x Maxtor 250gig sata2 drive

    2x Maxtor 300gig sata2 drive

    1x NEC dvdrw ide drive

    580w HiperX sli ready psu.

  9. ok from what i ahv used vista for.....my x1600xt doesnt cut it either.....its just a driver issue...but your card is the low point of the system.....but it should let you use aero by default...........have you tried using built in driver for your card??

answer to your question is Nope. even with vista's generic driver Aero glass theme will not work. all games i play run at max settings and perfect fps as you expect.

just in vista is b0rked, i've tried many drivers and same issue

as for the x1600xt is should be working fine like the 7600gs

areo glass theme i believe is supported from FX5200 onwards.

  10. i've done many strange things in my time, but to this date i aint deleted the recycle bin and it still makes me giggle at times when you hear someone scream out them words.

thankyou been feeling low all day and you gave me alittle pickup :D

glad the issuse for you is resolved now.

  11. Do Vista Basic and Vista Premium have the Remote Assistance facility, or similar, which is present in XP Home Edition?

If so, is it possible for an XP Home Edition machine to connect to a Vista Basic or Vista Premium machine for purposes of "remote assistance"?

aye idd you can, been doing it all day helping a friend setup vista and have it running/looking like xp till he gets used to it

i would suggest you use a 3rd party tool thou as its **** painfully slow using builtin vista tool

  12. system specs are:

    Asus P5LD2 DLX

    Intel D 950

    2x 1gig XMS2 533MHZ

    1x 200gig sata2 (primary)

    2x 300gig sata2 (ftp/storage drives)

    1x dvdrw pata

    1x 7600GS 256mb version

my problem is simple really with this system i should be recieving a decent score but im getting 4.4 lowest hardware item causing the low mark, in this case it reports that the gfx card is the low point !!!

i know its not the best system and i know its not the best gfx card (testing system only) but why the hell is the gfx card scoring so low on the vista scoring ? when cards way lower spec are scoring much higher ?

have tested a wide range of gfx drivers and score usually drops by 0.2 or 0.3 score regardless !!!

am using latest nvidia drivers from nvidia site for 32bit vista

you guys got any suggestions ?

BTW vista areo glass theme also will not work and runs vista desktop in basic format

  13. Actually, with Windows XP, all OEM re-activations (royalty or retail) would fail without a call to Microsoft. I'm not so sure that won't carry forward to Vista. Who wants to be the first to test this out? ;)

just so your all aware, i purchased Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit OEM installed it and registered it online.

From there i did the same again on another one of my systems, different board/cpu totally different in everyway

    installation was fine.

went to activate it and was directed as expected to phone for activation which i did

entered the 48 digit code into my phone blah blah blah and a nice chap asked the same usual 3 question you get when activating with OEM versions of XP.

from that point onwards nothing changed !!!

gave me my 48 digit code to enter and bobs your uncle activation was done.

so to see if this was a one of thing i did it again on my laptop and again after ringing up to activate and answering the 3 usual questions i was give a 48digit code and again bob was my uncle.

so it looks like the nasty rumours about Vista's EULA is unfounded.

im aware doing this is in breach of the EULA but it was done for testing purposes only (cough).

Let me get this straight. You bought 1 license and was able to activate it on 3 different computers with no problems by calling Microsoft? Why didn't you try activating online?

for the first system i did, for 2 system i tried and sent me to phone activation same with my laptop
