  1. I have used IE7 successfully on my laptop for some time. Today IE suddenly refused to open, offering me the text "Application error: The instruction at "Ox755c8259" referenced memory at "0xff6773fb". The memory could not be "read". Any suggestions?
  2. I have several years experienced a problem with one of the automatic updates I receive by Microsoft, I don't remember its code but it is a NVidia Geforce2 MX driver update. The thing is that this driver is simply devastating for my video card, NVidia GeForce2 MX\MX 400. On at least three occasion I have let is pass through by mistake, with crashes and freezes of XP as the consequence, usually I get the system restored when I uninstall the driver. I know that one can check a "don't ask about this update" box, but did you know that it only helps for some time, after a year or so, they are offering the same driver again. OK, yesterday I let it into my system again. This time the symptoms where rather different so I didn't understand the cause immediately. Anyhow, I am now caught in a some sort of "nv4_disp" eternal video driver loop (information on blue screen), and there simply seems to be no way out. It means that there are vertical, flimmering lines, all over the screen as soon as the computer is started. I have tried to uninstall, and reinstall new NVidia drivers, but nothing helps. The only way to get the system stable is to try to do completely without driver. The screen looks terrible, bur the rest of the system seems to work. So, I am thinking of using the recovery XP CD. Do you think this will work? Has anyone ever experienced a similar problem? My system: old Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo computer, motherboard MS-6330, XP SP2
  3. If I don't want anyone to alter my document, just read it, how do I proceed? It seems possible to protect the document by using password protection, but how does this work? For instance, if it is possible to do alterations, and save the document by using another name, it is not what I want, neither should it be possible to use copy\paste in order to create a new document. I would like the only option to be to write the text manually from the beginning. The background for this question is that nowadays many persons seem to think that they have found a clever new way of commenting on documents. That is, they simply make the alterations they want, and send it back to you, because it is so easy. Obviously, the result of this is often bad. It also has the consequence that there suddenly may be numerous versions of an original text circulating within a group of people.
  4. Thank you. But how does one reinstall Outlook Express if one already runs the latest version of Internet Explorer, and in an XP environment? There are two problems (1) IE is not included in Add\Remove of XP (2) Downloading a new version of Internet Explorer 6 does not solve the issue, since Windows refuses to remove the latest version of IE6 that is already on my system. I have to repeat that I find this all very confusing. I am not exactly trying to do anything very revolutionary on my computer, just install a very well known program, Microsoft Outlook. And so far, I haven't made any mistake, either. So, how come this is so difficult?
  5. Should it be very difficult to install Outlook pro 2000? I tried to do this, but now the following happens (1) When attempting to open Outlook I get the message: "Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 or greater. You can install Outlook Express 5.0 by running IE5Setup.exe from the Internet Explorer folder where you installed Outlook, or download it from Internet Explorer site on the Microsoft Web." Since I have the latest the version of Internet Explorer 6, I don't understand what this is all about. But the program allowed me to continue. But when Microsoft Outlook finally was about to open I got the message "An OLE registration error occured. The program is not correctly installed. Run Setup again for the program" After which it shuts down. And I am able to repeat the cycle but nothing else. Can anyone explain what is happening? OS XP SP2
  6. When I try to open Outlook Office 2003 I get the text "The connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this task". Clickin OK gives a little window with "Microsoft Exchange Server", where my IMAP server is suggested. But clicking OK gives "Unable to open your default email folders, and some additional text". And then the program shuts down. Any suggestions?
