    Does the switch have an IP address? If so can you ping the switch from either machine? If yes most smart switches have a ping utility, can you ping the servers from the switch?

    As everyone said above group policy is the easiest way to configure the clients to access the wsus server. Microsoft has excellent and easy to understand documentation on how to do this.

    You might want to have a search on the net for restricted groups. I certain groups can be setup in using Group policy to restrict access and every 60mins or so users who do not belong to the group are removed.
