  1. the only time i click my mouse like a machine gun is when i'm sword fighting in elder scrolls: oblivion
  2. your internal ip address (i.e. 192.168.1.100) is likely the same. your external ip address is different. is this not what you wanted to accomplish?
  3. i've been using install.exe /q for a long time, it works great
  4. none of them! cleaning a quarter mb of junk out of the registry won't even speed up an ancient computer. however, adjusting visual settings, disabling unused windows services, and disabling performance counters will do the trick!
  5. on this box i am running a multiboot system with these OSes installed: OS X 10.4.3 xp corporate sp2 random flavor of debian linux and finally a 700mb freedos partition i'm using to learn how to create an el torito cd do i win the prize?
  6. why is the legality of your clients' keys any of your business? i know what you're really thinking, but it's impossible to bruteforce your way to a legit key. even if there was ZERO latency in the process of checking the key validity i bet it would take your computer a week to find a good one. and of course your ip would be blacklisted from connecting to the server within like 5 minutes of hammering and you'd probably get sued for denial of service
  7. hahahahaha.... you know llxx, it's okay to not know everything and just let an expert respond. i somehow think tux could have produced that strange output on his own. my favorite part was "he asked his pillow with overflowing tenderness"
  8. i'd like to put in a request for inno unpacking, it's becoming pretty popular. there's an inno project at sourceforge if you're interested
  9. a simple batch script should do shouldn't it? for instance to silently install net framework you would execute install.exe /q
  10. 99% of the time with residential dsl you can change your ip simply by logging onto your router and disconnecting/reconnecting. if you don't use a router, just turn your modem off and back on. to verify the ip change, simply memorize the last number of your ip address beforehand (i.e. 134) and make sure it's different afterwards. if you are unsure of your external ip address, check IP Chicken
  11. i bet microsoft gave ya problems Bart, especially after they found out how superior BartPE is
  12. first off, this is a civil matter, not a criminal one, so that makes things difficult right there. since it's not YOUR license that's being trampled, you have no legal right to bring suit against them. personally, i'd quit crying and license a real application.
  13. can't believe how great this game runs on a crappy comp. athlon 64 @ 2ghz with 512mb of ram, built for a few hundred dollars while back...and the game is actually playable. going back and forth between thieves guild / arcane university / main quests love the one quest from the paranoid guy, he pays well. i'm waiting to use his quest as entrance to dark brotherhood my character type is the same i used in morrowind: custom class with all magics + blade skill, wouldn't recommend because it leaves me with only Alchemy as a lesser skill to gain Int with.
  14. there's not really any such thing as 'software' overclocking. nevertheless, very nice guide spazmire...it covers everything. aegis....not much of a guide but that's a great program.
  15. wow scubasteve, that's a sweet program. i really wasn't expecting to learn anything when i saw this thread. i can't believe i've never heard of tugzip. my windows cd just got a new addition. props scubasteve, you always seem to know what's up
  16. on my top secret custom windows cd i install the following programs: winrar mozilla firefox mozilla thunderbird utorrent kaspersky 6 ultraiso nero ultra edition raxco perfectdisk emule media player classic ted notepad
  17. throw norton in the trash. i used norton i had purchased on an infected pc, it couldn't even delete the virus that it did find, i had to use a free trial version of another antivirus (which happened to work perfectly)
  18. i was going to suggest encryption, but once your testers decrypt it they would be able to share it unrestricted. it would help to know what kind of media you're trying to protect. is it data, music, or video? i just had a really good idea tho, i don't think all is lost. you could watermark your files that you need protected with a particular signature that can be traced back to each tester. for instance if you have 10 testers, you'd have 10 different watermarks, each corresponding to the tester. if it's video, a watermark could be say a small transparent graphic in one of the corners. for music, it would be hard, and would have to blend in with the type of music. in it's most basic form it could be a few beeps at the beginning of a track, but that would be trimmed of easily. if it's data, you could append a byte to your data file that signals the beginning of a signature (FF for instance), and then just append a unique 8 byte signature. for watermarking to work, it's best if it's not noticed by your clients. the watermark must also persist when the media is "ripped" into another format. the watermark should be difficult to completely remove. if it all works you'll be able to seek compensation if and when your work does get copied because you'll know exactly who copied it.
  19. i get a random crash to desktop every now and then with my ATI, that's normal and probably not even your card's fault. i've been using the driverheaven zeropoint drivers lately and have gotten some really good performance
  20. he probably wants the exact dos flavor off of that CD, but i agree with you...i find that a standard freedos disk with a cd-rom driver is usually perfect
  21. i have a habit of using Notepad for pretty much all of my text editing needs. i do programming, edit html, everything text related i do in Notepad. this works out great except windows Notepad has many limitations, the most annoying of which is a filesize limitation. i've tried many notepad replacements including metapad, win32pad, bdv pad, and notepad2, but none of them have come close to TED Notepad. i just found this program the other day and i've been really happy with it. it's also one of the few notepad replacements that doesn't have any strange font anomalies. (half of the notepad replacements i tested can't properly deal with fonts + high ascii, more specifically when using Terminal font) so anyways, save yourself a headache and try the one rock solid Notepad replacement: TED Notepad at http://jsimlo.sk/notepad/
  22. if billion dollar corporations can't even protect their media i'm afraid there isn't much hope for the home user
  23. the easiest way i can think of for you to see the boot files would be the following: install ultraiso make an .iso image from your boot cd open that image up in ultraiso and extract the boot file (once you have the boot file extracted you should be able to open that image up in ultraiso to see what it contains) boot image will typically be an image of a 1.44mb or 2.88mb floppy
