  1. Sorry - should have supplied more info. Have checked all devices in computer manager and have no errors. Have checked event viewer and no errors. (Dunno if this is of relevance, but under System Speakers, it reports No Drivers Installed For This Device - this is reported whether or not the speakers are working!) Have also checked this newgroup for similar problems and they seem to abound (see http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t57446.html) - but unfortunately most the conversation is beyond me! Thanks again for your help, Hugh
  2. Hi, I recently purchased a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Mx438G notebook running Windows XP home edition SP2. From the time of purchase, the sound from the speakers was very very quiet - almost unhearable. I tried modifying any and all sound levels, but to little or no effect. I tried using the Drivers and Utilities tool from the cd that came with the notebook. Under the Driver section, under Sound - Realtek High Defintion Audio, the tool warns users to install the Microsoft Hotfix 888111 first. Upon installing the hotfix which is supplied on the cd, suddenly the speakers now work. However, as they were very loud (due to earlier tweaking of volume levels), I opened the volume control, and clicked on the "Master Volume" to reduce the volume level. The sound immediately stopped working again. I have repeated uninstallation of the hotifx, plus re-installation, plus uninstallation and installation of the Realtek drivers provided on the same Fujitsu Siemens disk - and without fail - as soon as I click on "Master Volume" (or use the keybord Function keys to change volume, or reboot) the speakers will immediately stop working. Sound levels are almost unhearable. If anyone can help with this problem, I'd be very grateful. I can only assume that somehow either the realtek or ms drivers are somehow being overwritten as soon as the system volume is accessed or a reboot happens. This is really frustrating. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide, Hugh
