  1. i've tried to make your solution "The Glimmerman" on the network but it didn't work even in the same pc, for example: if i made a folder called "test"which contains the file named "new.mdb" and another folder "test2" that contains the shortcut and the computer name is "MAIN" if i made a shortcut for the file and changed the target in the shortcut to : //MAIN/test/new.mdb the file will not work on the same pc if the folder is not shared, even with the right permissions. this means that also the shortcut will not work on the network.
  2. if they don't have access to view tha shared folder, this will b the simplest solution but they can browse it through the file explorer. i will try the permissions method and see if it's actually works thanks for ur cooperation
  3. i've tried this way before but it didn't work with me for example: the file path is D:\WORK\attendance.mdb the shared folder is D:\ATT if i made a shortcut for the file the path will b d:\WORK\attendance.mdb this is not right path for the other PCs and if i tried to access the shortcut //admin/d/att/attendance.ink it will not work because the network can't access the unshared folder which contains the file in the shortcut i will try to do it now and change user privileges in the original file location
