Turns out I have two machines from the same install CD. I can no longer get updates from Microsoft for one of the machines as of this month. The "Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)" always fails. I would like to re-install a different CD W2KPRO to to one of the machines, only to give it a new product ID and CD key. Thinking this will fix the problem, I go out and buy a new retail W2KPRO CD. But instead of re-installing can I just enter the new numbers in the registry of the currently installed OS? If I do reinstall from the CD, is there a way to re-install with the new CD key, and not change any other system settings, patches and installed programs? Or is it time to just back-up, reformat and do fresh install with new CD?
