  1. dead link :/
  2. what he said. since you obviously have a desktop, get yourself a 44-pin>40-pin adapter and hook it up to the desktop. that's your safest, and easiest bet to getting your stuff back. give me a sec and I'll find you one. I'm a big fan of producers (deep dish and paul van dyk are literally win ), and to see/hear about a producer losing all their work sucks hard edit: adapter: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16812205001 - I like this one. it looks strong, comes with the 44-pin->40-pin adapter you need, and is actually pretty handy. if you play around with hdds and cd drives, you'll find out just how useful it really is. and, to give you a little head-start on drive shopping, I found this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822146043 I trust hitachi drives, almost as much as I trust seagate, but seagates are expensive...even though you could probably boot from it after dropping it from 8 feet up I have a really old 2gb hitachi in my old deskpro 5000 and it's still running perfectly. a little expensive, but from that 8mb cache I see in its specs, you'll thank yourself for shelling out the extra cash and last time I checked, hdd upgrades don't void your warranty so... >.> as for your cd drive, I can't really help you there. it sounds dead too, but I'd try to get that replaced under warranty. whatever you do, do NOT send your laptop back to the manufacturer until you have all your data backed up. all they do is replace the drive with (probably) the same cheap-a** drive that's in it now, toss an oem image on it, and throw the old one away. hope I've been of some help to you
  3. omg, I finally learned how/what people use to zero a drive! lol, I've always read posts of someone zeroing their drive, but I didn't know if they used a third-party partition manager, or if the ms manager could do it.. lol, now I know why xp always seems to be happier when I completely reformat to do a reinstall
  4. here be mine (woot, second post!) eye candy: vista inspirat brico pack wall: iono...something from ps and
  5. three instances of AA0000 in winnt.exe...better than 0, and better than 50 edit: far too many instances in ntdll.dll... :/
  6. omg... lmao!
  7. "my apple is better than your orange!" "oh yeah? well, my cherries are better than your grapes!" or..something like that I voted for xp pro 64 bit, as it will be my choice when I upgrade to 64 bit, and currently use xp pro 32 bit. 2003 is fine and all, but, as previously stated hundreds of times, it was designed to work in a server environment. yes, you can turn it into a "workstation", but it's honestly not worth the time/money/effort to click on the torrent link (no one in thier right mind will pay $800 for a limited version of an os that does lack driver support, to try to use it as a normal consumer os). all in all, this is a pointless thread that should be locked. I quoted suryad because his post is informative. no other reason lol
  8. what client are you using? your best bet is to tweak the network/torrent/connection settings in the client. in µTorrent, increasing the value in net.max_halfopen to 20, and patching your tcpip(.sys?) to something around 75 will help. also, this may just be a crazy theory, but try configuring your connection settings in multiples of 8 say, like this:
  9. you'll have better luck getting answers at the nlite forum I can't really help you, as I don't have sata, but post your question over there (or use search to see if there's a thread on integrating sata drivers), and you'll likely get some help. (btw, nice box)
  10. well, you can do something kinda like that... schedule a batch file that would open up your theme of choice.. like how you would use a different theme for an unattended cd...... I think it's a good idea though. anyone wanna put in a word on this? daily theme switching would be kinda fun.. instead of "start", you could have "monday", "tuesday", etc.. now that's customization!
  11. and I assume that it'd be easiest to use the oem folder to install the shell.. thanks for the reg keys, nakira! now, to work! lol
  12. exactly what the description implies; how would I go about replacing the boring windows shell with something more interesting? say..geoshell or astonshell? I got an idea for my 2k unattended cd, and an alternate shell from the start would be sweet! edit: lol, the topic almost rhymes
  13. good thing I used that previewing thing... I didn't know that was a windowblinds skin, but I guess that would be the only way to have a vs that similar to vista... too bad :/ oh well, back to the bricopack edit: if I were you, I wouldn't use screenshots of that glass skin to advertize your pack. it's a little mis-leading to the people who are new to shell packs. they see shiny eye-candy and think that's what they'll get by installing this pack. then they'll see that's not the case and, well, they'll be back...or maybe not however, I'm almost tempted to try to mix packs...too lazy to play with boot screens myself
  14. I'll give this a try later today. from the screenshots, this may replace the vista bricopack I've been integrating into my nlitened cds.. I've been wanting that transparent window borders feature for a while now lol
  15. ok, it was a long shot, but I tried the logitech user's forums. this worked for me cybertronic, you should try this too: source: http://forums.logitech.com/pe/forums/displ...postID=10154485
  16. so nobody knows how this happened, or how it could be fixed?
  17. I just reinstalled xp 'cause itouch wouldn't install on 2k3. well, that's not the only reason, but anyway.. I try to install iTouch and get this: maybe I removed something in nLite that itouch requires..but this never happened before. could anyone shed some light on this? thank you
  18. I just went through ntdll.dll and nothing for bitmaps smss.exe has two bitmaps that I can't see...and it looks like all of the setup text.. now, if someone could tell me how to see bitmaps 601 and 602, this mystery may be solved! maybe it's like the boot screen and needs a certain color pallet to see? am I the only one who wants a red txt setup? edit: the boot screen color pallet didn't work man, if only I knew the right person in ms..

    MicrowinX Poll

I voted for all of the above. though I'd say software and driver support are a little more important than registry cleanup. I pretty much do that on my own anyway edit: sweet, third page starter lol
  20. are you using classic logon? from what I remember, this happens when you switch to the classic logon..I'd verify this, but I'm running 2k3, and won't be installing xp till later tonight. @ mr snrub: nice tip with ctrl-shift-esc! always nice to learn something new
  21. I'll post mine too vs: vista aero wp: my attempt at photoshop ff theme: vista inspirat se clean stuff.. dual-display rocks
  22. I must bump this, as I am also interested in this. does BlackBox work on 2k? I remember seeing alternate shells way back when..they had to be installed manually and were a pain in the a**, but looked really nice. could someone shed some light on this?
  23. could just be some rogue process as LLXX said... if it's a process then I would think that the slowness would go away if you booted in safe mode.. don't suppose you have another os to put on it and see if it does the same thing? if it did the same thing with a different os, I'd start looking at the mb... but, I'm out of ideas.. gl
  24. my advice: find yourself a copy of 2k..the only thing that xp has over 2k from a normal user's pov is the eye candy, and at 800mhz you won't be seeing any eye candy on your box also, 10gb is plenty if you get 2k edit: y'know, I just went through newegg, and I was able to put together a nice little system for ~$250. provided you keep your monitor, keyboard/mouse, gfx card, and hdd...maybe not the hdd lol and an xp home upgrade is $100 so total for a new(er), better, faster, budget pc: ~$350 hope I helped..too bad you don't live near me, I'd give you my copy of 2k
  25. maybe something is b0rked hardware-wise.. have you tried reinstalling everything on your board (ram, cpu)? I believe this happened to me once when I was playing around with my cpu and didn't put it back in just right...
