  1. Sorry for the long delay. If 888111 is now present in Add/Remove, then go into Device Manager and uninstall the sound card. Reboot. If it asks for drivers Cancel it. Run the Setup.exe from the latest Realtek drivers. Let us know.
  2. I have to add something here since I haven't read it from any other posts. Looking at the CPU temperature and the fact that your fan is spinning at 4655 Rpm (which is very fast) I would begin to suspect you have an issue with the CPU cooler/heatsync. Either it's dusty or hasn't got the connection to the CPU it needs to transfer the heat fast enough. We had a ton of Dell machines that needed a new CPU cooler/heatsync - they were only 2 pipe and needed replacing with 4 pipe models as the fans (over time) would end up running full blast because the CPU could no longer run cool. I would suggest replacing the cooler with a good quality unit with the proper Thermal paste between it and the CPU. By throttling down the fan now you risk fying the CPU or at least having it go into clock-reduced mode to keep cool. Cheap investment to keep things in top order.
  3. Check Add/Remove Programs for a Windows patch for KB888111 - if it's not there then download it and install it. If it's there, try removing it and reapplying.
  4. Not to be disrespectful here, but you stated you had 5 copies of XP Pro from your company - legitimate. Yet, in the next sentence, you state your OEM keys don't work. If you had 5 legitimate copies from your work then the keys should be included with them. If you copied the Volume media and got 5 OEM keys off the side of the computers then of course it doesn't work. You can try the Setupp.ini but it likely won't work. I haven't tried that tool mentioned to change Volume key to OEM - but if it was written by MS to fix the piracy issue then it likely works.
  5. If they have no profile already, then it should. If they already have a profile, then you'll need to log in as them and modify the HKEY_CURRENT_USER keys pointing to the new location.
  6. I found some others. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders These are created from HKEY_USERS\.default but expanded once a new profile is created and stuffed into HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
  7. It's disabled because it's not for a domain environment - as was XP Home. Copy the Profile directory to the new drive. Your registry hack should work now provided you have all the keys set correctly. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Shell Folders Should be where it's set. I don't seem to see any others that may interfere.
  8. It's finally posted. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926044/
  9. It may be that your hardware supports DEP - Data Execution Prevention - at the hardware level. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875352
  10. You could use 8-dot-3 names: E:\Progra~1\Java\jdk1.6.0\bin\java.exe Account
  11. The only way I see it work is by putting it back into Classic Start Menu. Not a great thing. You'd think they would provide a way using the new Start Menu.....
  12. At first glance it looks like your backslash is actually a forward slash. (e:/ is incorrect, e:\ is correct). If not, please post the code.
  13. I'd have to hazzard a guess that this was due to UPnP. You can disable this by going to Control Panel>Folder Options>View. This first entry is for Automatically search for network folders and printers. Uncheck this.
  14. I think you're correct - the iPod uses a 1-inch drive.
  15. Toshiba MK8007GAH - 80GB There's rumours of a 100GB drive from Toshiba to be released this month. Seagate makes the ST18 series - so far I only see 60GB, but I hear they were supposed to have a 120GB version by 4Q 2006.
  16. I'm not sure you can fix this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888137/en-us Unless you can find some newer drivers that can handle PAE, then you may be forced to work with your 3GB reported. When/if you install Vista, this should be corrected.
  17. Ok, my Lead has responded. He has no idea... He gets the same "page not found" internally as we do externally - and he's checking against 3 knowledebases (public, partner, and internal). I am grilling him about talking to the Product Group to find out exactly what this KB was about and if there is a replacement article available. Stay tuned..!
  18. How about: http://www.sitekeeper.biz/systems-manageme...?pass=822317868 Not sure what cost is involved though.
  19. If you got a CD with that Video Card, then find the INF from that driver to figure out what the PCI\VEN information is. You may be able to splice in those values into the newest 9x driverset. Don't be the least surprised if you don't get all the functionality the card has to offer - it's going to be a tradeoff of getting it to work in 9x.
  20. I got a reply that my lead is on vacation until the week between Christmas and New Years. I should hear back from him then. I will post whatever I can when he sends me the info.
  21. I just sent my Lead an email. I should have an answer back from MS shortly and I'll post what I'm allowed to.
  22. I wasn't implying he tweak the Forceware drivers. I asked him to look over my steps for tweaking the Vista driver and apply the concept to the latest drivers for 9x if his card wasn't in the supported list.
  23. I suppose you *might* not be able to use all the features this card has to offer, but you should be able to get a decently close bang for the buck. If you can't figure out how to tweak the drivers, then poke around this site: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ You'll see that there is a sort of *cult* in the nVidia crowd that is working hard at tweaking things to get them working. You may find something useful there also.
  24. You should be able to, yes. See my Blog on making the Go5200 work on Vista. <http://msmvps.com/blogs/netman66/archive/2006/11/26/vista-ultimate-with-nvidia-go5200-there-is-hope.aspx> Use the same technique to mod the inf and you should be good to go. Obviously, you'll be using the released drivers and trying to splice in the OEM hardware info, but I don't see why it shouldn't work. Paul
  25. "changeme" isn't complex (under the complexity rules) Default1 should satisfy this as it has a CAP, lower case and a number. It's also 8 characters.
