  1. Ok guys, you have convinced me to downgrade and save some money. I'm down to these 2 options. If you didn't know that System 1 was from Dell, which one do you think is a better overall deal/value?

    System 1 $999:

    Intel® Core™ i5-750 processor(8MB Cache, 2.66GHz)

    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English

24.0" Dell ST2410 Full HD Monitor with VGA cable

    6GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz - 3 DIMMs

    1TB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache

    ATI Radeon HD 5450 1GB DDR3

    16X DVD+/-RW Drive

    Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

    System 2 $1042

    Intel DP55WB Motherboard

    Intel Core i5 750 Processor

    8GB OCZ PC3-10666 Platinum RAM at 1333MHz - 4 DIMMs Dual Channel

    Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS Hard Drive 1TB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 32MB Cache

XFX Radeon HD 4670 1GB PCIe 2.0 Video Card

Ultra X-Blaster ATX Blk Mid-T Case

    Ultra LSP650 650-Watt Power Supply

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64BIT - OEM DVD

LG GH22NS50 DVD Writer OEM 22X DVD+/-RW Drive

S203-2426 CA Samsung 2494SW 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor Display DVI

    Integrated 5.1 Channel Audio

I know that System 1 is using Intel 57 chipset while System 2 is using Intel 55 chipset but I won't be using any RAIDs. System 1 video card is Direct X 11 while System 2 is Driect X 10.1.

    Thanks for the opinions.

  2. Hi,

This computer will be used for regular internet surfing, word processing, emails, and the odd video encoding/editing and Photoshopping.

I understand it's a bit overkill but I am kind of futureproofing my computer for a few years. So which system would you guys prefer for a pretty solid, fast computer?

If anyone has a better system for a better value located in Canada suggestions are appreciated. I'm not going to buy from the USA and pay customs charges and exchange conversion when I import it to Canada.

    Thanks.

  3. Hi,

I tried to install Ninja Trader last night. The setup.exe started running but then nothing happened. This morning I tried to install Microsoft Data Access Component version 2.8 which I downloaded from Microsoft but same thing. The .msi starts but then nothing happens. I am running Vista Home Basic on a Dell Vostro 1700 laptop 1.6 Core 2 Duo with 2gb RAM. I checked Event Viewer but I can't seem to find anything in there.

    Thanks.

  4. Hi,

I cannot get Windows Update to work. I get the following message: Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer. I have tried the Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended) that Windows Update gives you but that didn't work. I did a search and found this:

    1. Click Start.

    2. Choose Run.

    3. Type or use cut & past to enter each of the following in the Run Box.

(enter them one at a time & pressing OK after each one)

    net stop wuauserv

    regsvr32 wuapi.dll

    regsvr32 wups.dll

    regsvr32 wuaueng.dll

    regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll

    regsvr32 wucltui.dll

    regsvr32 wuweb.dll

    regsvr32 MSXML.dll

    regsvr32 MSXML2.dll

    regsvr32 MSXML3.dll

    regsvr32 qmgr.dll

    regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll

    regsvr32 jscript.dll

    net start wuauserv

This did not solve my problem. I also read on the internet that the MSXML3.dll file could become corrupted. I deleted that and downloaded the file from Microsoft but I still can't update. I tried this SFC /SCANNOW. I also tried this:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914224/en-us

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916248/en-us

They did not help me. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

  6. Thanks for the response. I do have a second hard drive. I will remove it and try again. I also have 2 network card, one of which is disabled but I will remove it too. I will try it tonight. Thanks again.

Is there a way to get Windows to stop going into setup mode?

  7. Hi,

I am very stuck. This is my problem. My computer would not boot. I did a repair installation of my XP. After the first setup when setup is copying files, we switch to the Windows installationpart. Once it goes to the Windows installation part, the installing devices part, it stops at 34 minutes remaining, after it installs my monitor driver I'm assuming because my monitor flickers for a couple of seconds before coming back stable, and then the hard drive stops working and my cd stops spinning and my progress bar stops at about 3/4 of the way with 34 minutes approximately remaining.

I tried chkdsk, fixboot and fixmbr. Didn't work. I don't think I have a virus or spyware/malware. I scan my computer weekly and I have NOD32 anti-virus with Zone Alarm firewall. I also have System Mechanic.

My computer is a P4 1.6 with 768mb RAM running XP SP2 with all the latest updates.

My computer went from working fine one day to nto being able to boot up overnight. When my computer boots up now, the Windows logo shows up and then it goes to the blue Windows screen and says setup is now starting or something like that. Then it does everything until the 34 minutes remaining part I mentioned above. I was wondering if there was a way to remove this setup. Windows remembers that setup never completed. Is there a way to rermove this memory somehow?

Does anyone have any help for me please?

  8. Hi,

When I surf normally, following link to link, my back button is normal but as soon as I go to a search engine, particularly Yahoo or Google, my back button is greyed out. Even after doing a search and I click a link and continue normal surfing, my back button is greyed. Also, when I search on my computer for files or folders, my back button is not available. What is going on?

    Thanks.
