  1. I removed the modem support for a few pc's and now when I try to connect a cell phone to any of them to transfer files, XP complains of having no "modem support".

Is there a way to add back drivers, files, reg entries, etc??

I thought I remember seeing a few threads on this but could not find them.

  2. This is from Geo411M, Works really well on ServerEnterprise

    Just follow along in vLite

It looks like he only removes a few "components". I guess the add features still works with this config?

  3. Unfortunatelly I don't have Vista Business edition. Vista Ultimate will have to do.

What about Server 2008 x64? Does it work with vLite?

I have recently vlite win2k8 x64 and yes it works. However with removing a few components the Add Features feature does not work that well, if at all for some components. Still trying to figure it out....

  4. banshee28

do all the updates installed successfully ?

Yes, the integrated worked and after using Windows Update it successfully downloaded and installed 2-3 updates automatically!!

The integrated update will install because components are remove after in the vlite processus.

Banshee28, i cannot say why you got the error in add feature

Yes, all updates seem good now, but not the add features:

    Pic

  5. If I edit my Windows Server 2008 using vLite will I it break the "add future" on my windows?, cuz i want to add some stuffs like the windows aero theme, if yes, is there any other way to add the Windows aero theme?

You should not break it by just adding stuff. I know removing winsxs can cause issues and removing other components as well can break it. Add a couple things at a time and see how it works.

  7. Does it break Microsoft Update?

I mean will it still check and notify you what updates are needed?

Removing winsxs doesn't break Windows Update. You'll be always notified that new updates are available but some of them (most of them) won't install. You'll get an error

Yea I made a new image and left in winsxs and Wu seems to work and install updates fine. However now my installed image is twice as large!

I guess thats about as good as we can get for now....

** the only thing I see wrong now is that add windows features (i tried to add deasktop exp) starts to install and gets to the end and always says element not found... Any ideas?

I guess this feature is broken since I removed too many comps?? LOL

  8. If you're aware to download your update manually and integrate them with vlite you can do so. But if not according to what it is said soon or later you 'll have error if you remove winsxs. I'll suggest you to keep it if you don't install often

So your saying that even if you manually download the updates they still wont install if WU is removed, right?

  9. Ok, I am trying to keep windows update so I can continue to get automatic updates on my Server 2008 build. However I am trying to remove as much as possible by removing the Component cache winsxs! However Windows Update needs the winsxs.

Is there anyway around this or any other options?

  10. I've done a very stripped down Win2008 as well now, and Server Manager still works fine B)

Of those listed by you, I kept only .net (because I need it) and Html engine.

I doubt removing .net causes this, so it's probably the lacking Html engine.

However, you can still compare yours to my config and see if there's any more differences:

Well I did some further testing: I created a new iso and left in the HTML engine and got the same error. So then I left in HTML and .NET. Now its working fine! So I guess .NET is needed for this mmc to work? Gonna mess with it now to see if there are any other issues.

  11. I guess I removed too much...Any idea which one of these items made this break? I think it must be one of these:

** Actually these are 2 separate errors. oobe occurs on bootup and the other opening comp mgmgt.

  12. Tried the Server x64 with just tweaks and unattended and it was fine.

Host should not matter. Your unattended language settings are somehow broken, don't know why.

Did you maybe integrate some hotfixes?

Hey nuhi, I must have had a bad iso or something because now I have a known good one and its WORKING GREAT :thumbup

THANKS....Looking forward to the newest version to add some more tweaks, hotfixes, etc ...!!!

  13. Sounds like language issue. Did you integrate any Language Packs?

Also if you use your own autounattend.xml you might try vLite's Unattended page instead.

Hey Nuhi, i used no language packs, no drivers, etc, and no comp removals...Tried the iso by itself and it went fine, but with vlite it had this issue. I will try another one with NO mods other than the unattended and see what happens.

Tried a working iso and used vlite with only the unattended and iso creation and it does the same thing. x32 and x64 standard core.

Tried on a vm and a pc with same result

  14. Sounds like language issue. Did you integrate any Language Packs?

  15. First, I know that vlite does not support removing Components from Server 2008. So I made sure I was not even checking the box to remove any components. I simply did a few tweaks and the unattended option. Upon trying to install in vmware, I keep getting this error: Windows cannot determine which language to install. Tried 5 or more builds of vlite with 32 and 64 bit standard builds but each one does the same.

Then I tried the full iso I have without using vlite. Worked perfect right away.

Any idea what is causing this? I want to test out Server 2008 and compare it to my vlite'd vista sp1!!

    Thanks

  16. Ok, since I have my legit copy of Vista Ultimate (VLK) and only a eval edition of vista with sp1 slipstreamed (RTM), I was thinking of installing vista completely in full on my test laptop using the VLK image, then install sp1 with all other updates, then use imagex to grab that image so I can then put it through vlite and re-install as needed. Will this work? I have never tried imagex but it sounds like what I might have to do to use vista with sp1 AND vlite using my current VLK copy of vista?

It sounds like alot of work, but I really need to get vista installed and like the benefits from SP1 even through its still beta.

  17. Yep Vista x64 Ultimate SP1 Beta with all x64 updates.. Works like a dream much better than without SP1 Beta. what you mean by 'Any Suggestions on this method?' do you mean a suggestion of how to integrate it, how to use vlite on it, etc...?

Well I guess what I am asking is if someone can get vista with the sp1 integrated, and use vlite then they wont have alll these post sp1 issues or other integration issues talked about in this post. I guess like Nuhi says once the newer Vista cds ship, they should have SP1 integrated so vlite should work fine at that point!!

  18. **UPDATE** I think I got it working!!

I did a from scratch re-install with a newly complied nlite, made sure the acpi multiprocessor option was there, plus used Ryan's latest updates with the dual core hot fix, and that seems to have worked. I can see both cores now in taskmgr. However with cpu-z I still cant choose a core since the option to choose a single core is grayed out, although it shows 2 cores. This might be perfectly normal, so I am still working on it.

But for now, it seems to be working pretty sweeet... :thumbup
