  1. Receiving error code 8024200dwhen trying to install SP1.
  2. I downloaded malwarebytes and it cleared quite a few objects, but still no luck. Then... Per this post: http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showthread.php/147481-Windows-Update-Error-80070005 Going to c:\windows and hiding and unhiding all the files worked to clear 80070005. I'm now able to update and install via windows update. Once the current update is done, I'll attempt to install SP1
  3. I just tried to run SP1 (the stand-alone from the download site) from the adminstrator account and it's saying "A required permission is not held by the client"
  4. Based on the error code 80070005, that was claimed to be security related, I ran windows update from the admin account and stil receive the same error.... I have no idea how to proceed. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks, WT

  6. Windows update now fails to check for updates with error code: 80070005 This used to work before I installed the update readyness hotfix... Thanks, WT
  7. Hi, I'm working on an Acer laptop that has Win7. I have no install media. I cannot get SP1 to install via update or via download from the MS download site. I've searched the net for causes, and this seems to be a common problem. The reasons for failure are varied, however. Is there anyone who can guide me through a troubleshooting process? The error codes don't give much info. I moved to Linux after the peak of XP to avoid Vista and am not too familiar with Win 7. While Win7 seems pretty solid, I'm very surprised at this sort of thing. I never had any issues like this with XP. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, WT
  8. Both are on different networks. Adapter 1 (wifi): is running DHCP as it travels from LAN to LAN Adapter 2 (aircard): is also running DHCP, but is getting it's IP from Verizon's DHCP servers. I can bridge the connections successfully. The only real problem is starting the aircard disables the wifi adapter.... Do you know how to stop that behavior?
  9. I want to use two separate network adapters to route traffic over the internet. Adapter 1: is a wireless adapter that is currently in use on the laptop. It should route all traffic that is not specifically bridged to adapter 2 Adapter 2: is an aircard that I want to bridge all virtual machine traffic (Virtual Box) to the internet. (i.e. VM traffic should not go over adapter 1) However, when I start my aircard, it shuts down my wifi adapter. How do I keep both enabled and functioning as described above? Thanks!! Specs: XP Pro SP3 Dell E6410 Verizon Air Card
  10. Hi everyone, I am new to this great forum and have been searching for some info on setting up an unattended windows 2000 CD. I have Windows 2000 Professional I have slipstreamed SP4 + Rollup into the CD. I have created a winnt.sif file with the options I want with setupmgr.exe I have created my $OEM$/$1 directory with subdirectories containing apps I want deployed I am deploying WMP 9 with cmdlines.txt via a .bat file I am currently testing my autoinstallation of IE6SP1 and dx90c from articles on this forum but they are untested as of now. dx90c is being installed with the dxsetup.exe posted to the forum, but this file is significantly smaller in size and am wondering if it is completely compatible even though it may not generate the dll errors with dxdiag. ie6sp1 is being deployed with the #e switch to download the necessary files and then run the setup. Both are being called from cmdlines.txt via .bat files. Some people are deploying apps with cmdlines.txt, some with [GuiRunOnce], and some with setup.reg. What are the pros and cons of each??? Is there a rule of thumb on which to use? even with cmdlines.txt, I've noticed that some people call the install from the file and others call a .bat that does it. Some others even call cmd from their cmdlines.txt file: "cmd /start /wait \%systemdrive%\yourapp.exe /switches (I haven't used this and the command may not be correct as written) anyone have any comments?? In the future I will try using IExpress and compare install times. I just found out about this great utility and seems like it would be a nice addition. I could have my bat files call a compressed exe.
