  1. No, not on the server at all. I labeled the external a XP box but it doesn't see the label on the server when I plug it in. Thanks!
  2. According to your list I screwed up things I think. Ok, please walk me through each step if you can. First, how do I Set static ip address on Server Lan adapter, promot Server to domain controller and nstall and configured DNS on the server. I think once I do the first three the other items on your list I hopefuly will have no issue doing. Thanks so much, your a lifesaver!
  3. Sorry, i was just jokeing. Anyway, I guess I'm explaining it wrong....I have a net card in all my PC's and they are connected to a hub. Remember I said I have DSL and all of the boxes can connect to the net. I never even used a modem on any of these boxes though I think they have them built into the motherboard. Sorry again if I p***ed you off
  4. Check this out as it may help you understand what I have here. I just connected another external hard drive and I can also see it in device manager. This drive is formated FAT32 and I can see it's properities but I can't mount it in "MyConputer" just like with the other drive. But, I noticed that the new first external drive I was trying to access says "Unlabled Volume Properties> File System RAW and Used Space 0 Bytes and Free Space 0 Bytes This drive can be seen by my other boxs all of which are Win XP Thanks Now it's getting real strange. I just connected my ScanDisk Mini Cruzer USB and I can see it mount it and get into all of the files.
  5. Ok, done but I still can't access that external drive. I can see it in device manager though.
  6. Hey, How do i manually assign a drive letter to it from the server? I don't see any error next to the external drive in Device manager at all. Thanks
  7. No it does not show up in disk management at all. I did find in in computer mamagement though under device manager - Disk drives (Can't find a way to rename it here though) . I renamed that drive on another box (F) and pluged it back into the server and it still won't show up in "My Computer" at all. Is there a way to rename on the server si i can see it and enter it?
  8. I have pluged my external hard drive into my server box through firewire and USB and it does not show up at all. Is this it a defalut Security thing that is perventing the external drive from accessing the system or something stupid I'm doing? Thanks in advance
  9. Ok, How do I set up the nic's for the lan and the internet? How do i find out what my static IP is and how do I tell the server the static IP for the lan nic once I have it? I can access the internet from the server as I checked useing IE. I guess I'm trying to access the server through a dialup as that's what it looks like to me. It keeps trying to redial. I just want to log on straigh with out going through a dialup. Yes I have installed the active directory as advised. No I'm not trying to log into the domain from the internet. Thanks so much guys, I'm sure you can tell I'm a real newbe with this server stuff....Thanks!!!!!!! I think i should add this bit of info as maybe it will help understand what I'm doing wrong. When I go to "Network Connections on my Client box There is an icon of 2 comp screens, it's right under "Virtual Private Network Next to the Icon it says tomtom Disconnected, Firewalled WAN Miniport (L2TP) Hope that help. Thanks
  10. Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay in replying. I'm trying to log on to a domain though I'm wondering if I set it up correctly on the server. Now when I try I'm getting this error ERROR CONECTING TO TOMTOM Error 769: The Specified destination in not reachable. Redial Cancel More Info What am I doing wrong? I also remember that when I was setting up the server there was an error message saying something about my IP address was dynamic and a static IP was needed and that I could later enter that. I'm on a DSL conncetion if that means anything to you guys. Again, thanks in advance!
  11. Big Thanks InTheWayBoy. Nice Tut and easy to follow. In Networks Connections I can see the server now but, can't logon at all. I'm getting this error. Connecting to tomtom.bigman.com... Error 800: Unable to establish the VPN connection. The VPN server may be unreachable, or security parameters may not be configured properly for this connection. If anyone can help me please do....thanks in advance!!!
