  1. @Eidenk: Hey, no offence taken whatsoever - your contributions to this, & many other, threads are as I implied valued & appreciated (& linking to it in the "nightmares" thread was great: the more folks who get warned about this before it bites them the better! I don't really count this as a nightmare mind, more an unneecessary annoyance >. One day I might post about my *real* w98 nightmares, & that'll double the thread length & make ur toes curl !) All I was trying to say is that your somewhat "full on" attitude at times aint my way of doin things - but it takes all sorts, & thank Evans for that. The forum would be a pretty boring place if everyone was as flat & serious online as me !!!!! Thinks: Must set up a .sig if I'm gonna keep posting here...
  2. Tihiy: Was that "LOL" aimed at Eiden's previous "buttcheeks", etc comment, or at me for falling foul of your bizarre, unexplained, script action ? If it's for Eiden, then fine: I don't exactly go along with his style, but the forum needs people like him around, if only to keep you on your toes, & I have read a lot of useful posts by him in amongst the cynical flaming. If it was aimed at me, & the problems *YOU* have generated with that installer, then that's way out of line, & a pretty childish attitude to take - judging by your helpful responses & quick update/fix cycles for just about everyone else posting with problems in that hellish long "Win 9x revolutions" thread, I very much doubt you'd take that attitude, but it's difficult to tell exactly where your comment is aimed. Incidentally, I've had to uninstall RP4 for the time being (having carefully checked out restore.bat first & backing up everything it was gonna delete - you don't catch me like that twice !!): I managed to get over most of my problems by setting W98 compatibility on VSMON & shell.exe, but the whole system went flakey on next reboot, repeatedly crashing & rebooting when it tried to load in the ESDI driver ("[000CE0FF] Initing esdi_506.pdr" in Bootlog. My primary & secondary IDE controllers are locked on system reserved IRQ 14/15 in BIOS & device manager to get round VFAT device loader problems, if that's of any relevance) Look forward to the "new RP4 release", presumably with that "deltree /y" worked around: I'm already missing the unicode support & especially that marvellous Shutdown/lLogOff trinket of yours now I'm back to vanilla-ish 98SE.
  3. Sabotage by who tho ? this was the "official" unofficial W9x revolutions pack, downloaded direct from Tihiy's site, & run "straight out of the box". I deselected all the "eyecandy" options (no need for 32-bit icons, toolbar patching, etc: just wanted the unicode options really (dreaming I might be able to run eg Google Earth on my fastish, powerfulish, AMD3200 Shuttle desktop/gaming machine which I'm sticking with '98 on, rather than the old XP-preinstalled P3 laptop with its crappy Intel graphics)) & chose the "backup option, then Poof! away goes all my backups. (Getting loads of other problems too (lost network browsing, Zonealarm's VSMon crashes on startup, lost mouse wheel actions in Far Cry, startup.cpl (& other control panels) take forever to load, explorer slowed right down (bit like the IE6 SP1 browseui.dll bugs), but that might well be down to odd mixtures of system dll's, etc (running on W98SESP2.02, withiout 98SEtoME, but with assorted other hacks eg the browseui.dll fix), & I can eventually get to the bottom of all that: just would have been nicer to do it without losing all my recovery tools ! Still gonna stick with the Rev pack once I can get it sorted tho': how's that for a vote of confidence ?
  4. Having used the 98SESP for some time now, I recently came across this forum, & hence Tihiy@s Revolution pack. Finally got around to installing it (RP4 build 2700) today, & apart from a few "common" problems (mainly around shdoc401.dll not registering), am well impressed; with one serious exception: I know it's daft, & I should know better, but I've gotten so confident that judicious use of scanreg /restore & a few other trinkets will dig me out of any system- related problems, that I no longer bother religiously backing up my system before major cosmetic surgery such as the Rev Pack, relying on a comprehensive tree of old rb00x scanreg backups, ++ a few other tools & backups, all of which are conveniently stashed inside the sysbckup folder, & which have managed to get me out of just about all my frequent cock-ups & crashes. Until this crazy bloody installer of yours ran it's makbackup batch file, supposedly to add a bit of security to the whole process, & promptly ran "deltree /Y %windir%\sysbckup" WHAT !!!!! why the hell do you have to do that ???? Without warning, or choice ????? Couldn't you at least have backed it up, or given me the option to abort, first ?? That's it, gone. all my registry exports, dll file backups, old registries, even (just to add insult to injury) my bloody "undelete" utility. And then promplty recreate sysbckup just to make sure that by the time I'd got over the shdoc401 crashes & VFAT conflicts to get 32-bit Winows running again & run a new copy of undelete, the original sysbkup folder, & all my extras therein, were well & truly gone for good. I can only put it down to sheer bloodymindedness.
