  1. Well, this part of the assignment was to compare the requirements for a UNIX workstation and a Windows NT workstation.

The "company" for this would be supposed to be is something like a social security office, with about 300 employees.

Now for windows BT i have the following required setup:

    -1,5 Ghz processor

    -on-board sound

    -on-board LAN

    -64 MB GPU

    -100 GB Harddrive

    -Standard keyboard and mouse

    -Dvd-rom drive and floppydrive

    -512 Mb memory

So in other words, a standard miditower.

Now i have been looking around, but can't seem to find anything on workstations for UNIX, just servers.

So can UNIX be used on a workstation, or should i ask my teacher if they made a mistake and meant Linux?

  2. Hi there all.

I was wondering if someone here could tell me what the "requirements" for a UNIX workstation are.

So that means not the absolute minimum, but what you would want in an office if you would have to get like 50 workstations.

I need to know this for a school assignment, but have no idea what would be a good setup.

I have been reading the web for this, and come accross workstation with a 400Mhz processor, and 8 GB SCSI drives.

    Is this normal?

Well thanks for all your help.

  3. Hi there everyone.

I was wondering if someone knows where i could find and edit the background for this screen.

It's the screens where you activate windows, setup your internet connection and specify users.

This is the last screen i need to modify for my customized Windows.

For my project so far, check http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=65120

Thanks for all your help :).

PS. It's for windows MCE in dutch, if it makes any difference.

  4. Hello there everyone.

The last 3 days I have been customizing my windows install, and now i would like to get some feedback on it.

First I have integrated all updates using NLite.

Then I removed most unnecesarry (sp?) stuff, so i could get everything on 1 cd.

The filesize now is 678 MB, including SP2, updates and Media Center :D.

After that i tweaked the remaining settings using NLite.

Then i found out about custom setup billboards, and that's when the visual customization started.

BTW, my msn nick has been redfox for 10 years now, that's what gave me my inspiration.

    Okay, here we go.

    First off, setup's custom autorun:

    autorun6jv.th.jpg

    The second page of autorun:

    autorun26iy.th.jpg

And the third page of autorun:

    autorun35ta.th.jpg

Then we have the screen we get when starting the setup from within windows:

    setupfrontpage8me.th.jpg

And here we have the setup billboards we get when we start setup from boot:

    setupbillboard6ga.th.jpg

Here is my custom bootscreen, simple but effective I think:

    bootscreen1ia.th.jpg

Then we have the uiLogin screen:

    login0uj.th.jpg

And lastly, my desktop and startmenu, i used the Slate Refresh VS from Vista beta. This is the exact way it looks when you first log in after

    setup completes:

So tell me what you think about it, and if you have any more suggestions.

Also if you need any help, just give me a PM.

And I would like to thank everyone on this site for their helpful turtorials, posts and programs.

I couldn't have done it without you.
