haven't come across such problem.. used jdeboeck's bathes many times. maybe you accidently just opened sysoc for manual editing and saved it as Unicode by yourself. batches (unaltered) don't do such things.

one more thing. even if i remove components from source, their directories still keep being created. where is it controlled? i'm crazy with having empty internet explorer folder in my %programfilesdir%..

nice method. maybe if you plan to work on xp, then i can help you with 2k3. i'm interested in slimming both of these OS's. even in server family there are unneccessary components. and why i started interesting in slimming - no component - no security issue. like this. i don't use IE. and there are some critical vulnerabilities in it. remove IE, and you're protected and don't need to install hotfixes.. or do?

what tools do you use, jdeboeck? uh, i mean, how do you find unneccessary files? just analyzing logs? or comparing real files present in \i386 with .inf's, like dosnet, layout, yeah?

of course you need. at least should. integrate sp2, slim it and then reduce size of source.

jdeboeck i would like to help you. but i can't understand for sure what's it all about? is it about making new so-called REMOVE.ZIP for wxp sp2? then i'm in! i already have some expirience in slimming as i improved your REMOVE.ZIP for personal use, like removing task scheduler, zip folder compatibility and some other small features.. please contact me through my mail, in profile, so we can corespond, okay? i always was angry with that microsoft's habit of feeding us with what they want and not letting us to make choice in components..

hello everybody does anyone know anything about subject? i just wanna modify and personalise winxp all the ways possible. first i don't like that it loads a bunch of files for scsi devices and many others like human interface reading devices, etc. at first phase of setup. and it takes time. even if it just displays these titles... also i wanna control what (default ms) drivers are copied with my win to my hard drive. summary: i wanna speed up winxp setup by removing unneccesary files. and i found their names in files stated in subject. just don't wanna dig them without any preparing.
