this computer was a much needed upgrade this is my old pc specs compaq presario 5000 series windows Me 1ghz AMD athlon 128mb ram later upgrade to 256mb 8xcdrw (worst pc i have ever owned i had to fix it every few months) got this in december 2000 it was much dearer than the new pc this is the specs of my much much older pc (got this in 1999) dell dimension xpst500 windows 98 500mhz 64mb ram upgraded to 256mb to give to my mum 8x cdrw upgraded a few months later to 40x cdrw and installed a memory card reader. this pc was very good better than the compaq even through the compaq is newer than it.

i do have a 52x dvdrw, JBL platinum speakers and an extra 120gb HDD which was included with the pc, i just didnt think it was important to include this info.

after having windows Me since 2000 i decided to upgrade to windows xp a few months ago and what can i say about Me, it was the worst OS microsoft have made. down to problems with hardware, software, system restore and lots of other stuff, i dont know why i didnt upgrade to windows xp sooner. i have had windows xp for a few months now and i have not had one problem with it. what does everyone else think of Windows Me.

im not sure if this is a problem with windows or drivers or both but anyway, when i go into my computer and try and access one of the cd, floppy or dvd drives it says it is not accessible, and also there should be two hard drives listed in my computer i only see one local disk © there should be another one called network (N) drive the missing hard drive is ment to be where the red square is in the picture. i have an screen capture of the drives that are not accessible go to www.gamers.20m.com/images and look for a file named 0my computer.jpg. the image is to large to upload to the forum. if anyone can help me that would be great thanks.

One other question about the problems you described in your first post. Did these problems occur from day 1, or did it take a few days/weeks for it to start happening? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> no when i got it, it work perfectly. i only noticed a few days ago. i have tryed contacting the company but they havent replyed yet. will let u know when they do

im not sure what heatsink and thermal paste i have, it was already install in the pc when i got it. what temp should a AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 2.4GHZ SAN DIEGO be at. my old pc which im using at the minute is between 26c - 34c and its an intel pentium 3.

i tryed speedfan the temp started at 38c when i turned the pc on then when to 46c then 63c now its between 76c - 82c, i dont think thats normal

its an AMI bios, i think the problems is down to overheating, i did a test so i turned the pc on for about an hour, then turned it off and touched the heatsink and it was extremey hot. im going to contact the company i got it from and see if they can help.

its 5 short beeps, but if its a processor failure why does the pc work with no problems sometimes.

i have looked at the mobo when it beeps and there is one orangey coloured light near the ram slots edit - this is where i got the pc from www.dmachines.20m.com this is just there temporary site, they did have another one but i dont know what happened to it.

i have just got the windows vista beta 1 dvd disc in go through all the steps, enter the product key, then the computer has to restart so it does that then when it restarts a error message appears say something like disk error or hard disk error or something like that, then i have to reformat the hard disk to get the pc working again. can anyone help
