I'm having some issues with vista.. i just installed it over my xp install.. vista made a windows.old folder and dumped all the xp files there. don't have a dvd drive on that computer so i wasn't able to format. but i was trying to copy a folder over from a different partition of the hdd which the folder is about 7gigs. it starts copying fine and the computer locks up about 10-25% after fighting with this for a while i decided to pull the ram out and it copys fine with both sticks when they are by themselfs but when both sticks are in vista locks up. i also had this problem when trying install ffxi i was able to get it to work after setting the appearence to classic. what do you think the issue might be?? Well I've been looking around for a bit and I couldn't find any answer on this.. well I did but it was some software that was hardware specific. Currently my whole network is set up wired which I don't have any problem with, until I got a psp. My 2nd comp has a built in ethernet port on the mobo, and a linksys wireless-g card. Now ive been trying to set up the comp so that i can share the internet using the linksys card. This way i can go online with the psp(a least im hoping). I don't really care if can't get too far from the computer. I also have a MSI wireless-g card. Can anyone point me in the right direction? [uPDATE] After searching some more I found a different word to search with on google(soft AP). which got me to this page which tells you how to set up what i am doing for the nintendo ds. which works with the psp as well.. which im sure would work for any other application like a laptop so now I am going to be setting up on my other comp as well. since the range on it is really short which is great since it only works in like a 2 - 3 room radius, and even that is pushing it.

anyone know of any software that might be able to achive something like this?

well i don't want to disable fast user switching as i don't want my profile to get logged off of. just trying to see if there is a way to hibernate the other profiles when i use my profile or something. or something to save the state of that profile so it can be reloaded once they log back in.

Well I got 3 profiles set up on my computer right now.. I am the main user of the comp but sometimes other people use my computer and sign onto the other profiles but never logout. which is fairly annoying so i started wondering if there is a way to have the computer automatic logout the other profiles when you enter a profile. it would be better if the computer would save the state of the other profiles that are logged in when logging out so that when that user logs back in again everything goes back to the way it was. i figure doing this would free up some ram when i goto do work or something that is memory intensive.. currenty i have to go around and ask if they need to save anything and junk before logging them all off. i don't even know if this is possible.. but i guess it would be like hibernating each persons profile any suggestions would be great

Yes i do have a floppy. also i had a 80 gig as a master and that died on me im using my 40 gig as a temp drive till i get sent a new one. i also already have a slave thats 160gig i really don't need another partition im only trying to do this so i don't have to spend my time to format and reinstall windows when i get my hd. and plus ill have an easy way to restore my comp when i have to format again.
-
So norton ghost can accomplish this then? if thats the case then i guess ill format this drive. also is there some freeware drive cloning soft that can do this i really don't want to get a cloning soft just for this one time..

well my 80 gig hd just died out one me so im using my old 40 gig as a temp till i get my new 80 gig. but i was thinking about reinstalling windows on my 40gig and then use one of those drive cloning softwares to clone it to my 80 gig. would i be able to do this without any problems? will the cloning software spit up my 80gig into two partiions? Anyone know any good ones that is low cost or free? i just want to make sure before i spend my time and money trying to get this to work and then finding out that i have to partition my hd into two partions because they weren't the same size.

hmm i think i explained it wrong.. in the folder security tab there is a group/user called Account Unknown. and I can't edit remove add anyone on this list. It would be great if there was a way to reset all the folder settings.. even if i set it back to simple sharing the comp still acts up on that folder showing the same problems I also noticed i can edit any of the files in that folder and subfolder. but I can copy them to the desktop but not to my flash drive. would i have to format? would that solve this problem or would it render the folder useless?
-
I was wondering how i can remove an unknown user from the folder security tag.. It just says unknown user and I can edit anything in that tab anymore is there anyway i can get around this problem? Also im guessing this is causing a problem with copying files to my flash drive. Any files in that folder has it wont let me copy. even if i copy that file to a different hd it wont let me copy it to the jump. but i can copy any other file without any problems.

thanks i got it to work now..

for some reason i can't find a security tab.... I get General Sharing Customize it would let me lock the folder but then no one is able to see it.. so im lost again... wheres the information stored? maybe i can just manually edit it some how? and yes im using pro..

I really don't want to make my files completely private.. i want them to be accessable but not be able to change or delete them.. so i want to set everything on a certain drive to read-only or at least specific folders...
-
I was wondering if there is a program that will let me set a read-only attribute to a certain drive/file/folder depending on which user is on the computer?? or can you set this nativly in windows?? im just trying to avoid certain files on my hd to mysteriously disappear, when other people are using my comp

well when my comp loads.. i get 12 systray icons... which regardless of when i check the list is always blank like i had never had anything in my systray so i can't say when its failing list of icons.. Getright Blue Soleil speedfan dyndns updater iTouch power management safly remove hardware thrustmapper taskbar utlity avast! Avedesk Powdercleaner topdesk miranda32(not set to load on startup)
-
well i deleted the two.. restarted.. repeated this a few times... even have ccleaner do it.. but still nothing... no icons or anything... the ones that were set to be hidden before are hidden... but some of the newer programs running i have to wait for them to hide since the list is still empty.. are there any other places i may be able to gain access to this list?
