  1. Well, I did my best following the instructions and gave it an initial break in period of about 26 hours, (running the pc then turning it off and allowing it to return to room temprature) then I got impatient and ran ati tool. I can get a few extra mhz out of it (it's been like 70 hours now). I can only get it up to 417/388 so far. I have an arctic silencer r3 on there and I'm happy I could get it up over xt speeds with it being stable. This topic has been done to death on the web but everybody says something different...not sure if I should flash to an xt or just be happy with my little overclocker. Besides I have a powercolor 9800 pro and I can't find anybody on the web that has flashed a powercolor 9800 pro to an xt...so, I don't know. What do you think?...thanks for the guide for the Ceramique and of course all your great help Ssmokee! You are the man. P.S.-by the way it definitly has the r360 core (checked twice)
  2. Thanks for the info Ssmokee, was perplexed myself when trying to find the awnser through Google. Thanks for the reassurance with the Windows ripping situation...makes me feel better since I did it once I got don't chatting with the tech guy, lol. I figured it was my copy so why can't I use it? Anyways if I buy this chip I just wanna make sure it won't physically screw up my board. I wouldn't mind if it only used 512 of it but that tech dude was talking like I'd put a crater in it. But oh well, here's a question. I don't know how much knowledge you have with video cards but I installed my vga silencer on my 9800 pro with the included paste...I read for performance reasons I should have used something like arctic ceramique or something. I ordered a tube just to have on hand but do you think it would have any performance benefits if I re-installed the vga silencer with the Ceramique on the processor? Thanks for looking out Smokee!
  3. So smokee, what's this long story about a 1g module might work?...just curious. This computer I have was originally an e-machines (although I've altered it so much that the only thing emachines about it is the motherboard) anyways, I managed to talk to an e-machines "tech" and he said even if I did manage to get a 1gig in there the motherboard wouldn't utilize it due to the fact that it was designed to only handle 512 a slot. What do you think about his statement? Is he just trained to say that? He spent the majority of the time telling me not to upgrade my board because I wouldn't be able to use my restore cd...lol. I told him I would just rip my copy of windows off of the restore cd since it was my copy anyways and he went on a rant about how I couldn't rip e-machines property. So I think maybe he was just trained to say that? P.s.-also, if I did decide to keep this motherboard and the 1gig chip doesn't work...will I see much of an improvment by going from 768mb to 1024? Thanks again!
  4. Awesome, I kinda figured that since my 9800pro is an 8x card and still runs in the 4x slot I have...I thought maybe the concept would be the same. Thanks for your help ssmokee, much appreciated!
  5. well, a friend of mine has a crappy m848lu (PC Chips I believe) motherboard he said I could have but I noticed the specs say it runs a 333mhz fsb. Everest has shown me I have a thourobred-A 2200 (**** it) I am sure this processor is below a 333 fsb. Will my crappy processor and crappy memory run in this crappy motherboard? Just looking for a quick fix before I can do some homework and build a complete system. Thanks for your continued help with keeping this dinosaur alive!
  6. well that sucks...I thought I read that somewhere but a couple other sites it said it could hold 2 gig...but oh well. That is strange...1024 max in a pc only 2 years old?...what the hell? Thanks for you help ssmokee, you should be paid also-kinda a jip if you have to pick between 2 pci slots and 2 gigs or 3 pci slots and 1 gig...If I had known that back then I would have gone a different route all together.
  7. Oh sorry Ssmokee...I knew I wasn't specific enough when I wrote that. What I meant was it had 3 pci slots...no only 2 memory slots exist on my motherboard. One slot has a 512 and the other a 256. I was thinking about taking out the 256 and putting a 1g in there. Sorry for the mix up.
  8. Oh well, back to work. Thanks again SSmokee!
  9. I also realize I'm running slow memory (2100) What do you think?
  10. I've got the board with 3 expansion slots. I do a little video editing (but not much) and run games such as battlefield 2 (barely), san andreas, band of brothers, Far Cry, silent hunter 3, Escape from Butcher bay, and the whole Gambit of flight sims. Burn and encode/decode lots of movies and so on. Would kicking it to 1.5 make any difference or should I just bite the bullet and build a new system?...don't wanna waste the money. Thanks for replying! I appreciate it.
  11. Another question that I am sure could be awnsered with a little research...I have a L7Vmm2 style MOBO and would like to overclock (until I decide to invest my shareholder's check into a new system). What would you recommend for a cpu cooler? If this has already been awnsered in this forum please feel free to pick me apart with critisism because I know I would deserve it. Thanks for the help guys... Athlon xp2200 80 gig hard drive (7200 rpm) XP Pro 768 DDR Ati 9800 Pro with VGA Silencer (oc'd to 414/378) WinTv PVR- 500 She's an old dog, I know...but she's been faithful...
  12. I don't usually ask these simple questions before doing lots of research on my own and googling like hell but I can't find anything out there...maybe one of you can awnser this? I've got an old xp2200 Athlon with 768 ddr. I am thinking of slapping a 1 gig stick in there (well after removing a 256 stick) to make it a gig and a half. would this be worth it?...can this processor even handle that much memory or should I just upgrade all the guts in my pc?...dumb question I know but we all have our slow days. Thanks guys.
