  1. alright well thank you for the replies and solving this for me!
  2. i moved the jumper to reset the CMOS and it WORKED!! Running perfectly again. I built this computer my self (first build) and had zero problems with the overclock. It is really odd that it suddenly caused an issue. i use speed fan and always insure that cpu temp is very low stays around 20c-24c at moderate load. it may hit 51c at max load. when i had it over clocked for the past 3 months or so. when i built it i never installed the stock heat sink i just used thermal paste and installed aftermarket heat sink (XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle) so did the bios shut down to save the computer for damage or what would be the reason for the shutdown. i was a very slight over clock from 2.4ghz to 2.7ghz. (people have q6600 at clocked much higher than that) i dont want to lead this off topic into the area of overclocking but i am just curious as far as what causes the CMOS to "trip" thank you for all the replies
  3. how do i remove the cmos battery? where is it and what is the proper method? my monitor does not even show the "no signal screen" like it does not detect anything from the computer. it crashed last night i was using the tv tuner to record a show and when my wife used the computer to play the record show in media center she said it crashed with no error messages.
  4. please help i just got a new computer 5 months ago and suddenly it will not boot. when i turn it on it will reboot after about 2sec and then after the reboot will only show a blank screen. there are no boots. what i tried took 1 ram out and tried it in each slot. put the video card into the 2nd pci slot tried a new monitor. i do not have a spare video card or mother board to test these. what other tests can i run. specs of system are q6600 (over clocked to 2.7 with no voltage change) please do not say overclock did this) (not using stock heat sink but i forget the brand) gtx 260 (stock) ocz reaper 4gb ram (2 gb sticks) p5q-e asus mother board vista premium installed. corsair 750hx power supply WD 620 hard drives (2 of these) avert medai tv tuner card please any and all suggestions never had an issue before this.
  5. @crahak thanks for the reply you gave me some great info. stuff i really did not what to hear... I guess i miss assumed that there would be a pci card you could buy could put in your pc which would basically do the identical functionality as a tivo or other dvr setup. you would think with technology as quickly growing as it is and how every home has a computer that ATI or Hauppauge or another company would have created such a device by now. I am very disappointed. I guess i will have to wait for such a device to hit the market in years to come.
  6. @Zxian thank you for the additional information. i did not know that about usb cards. There are so many tv tuner cards i am having a hard time finding a very good high quality one. i would like to pay under $100 but i would pay up to $200 if i knew it was a great quality card. Here is an additional twist. My ultimate goal is to have the computer and tv in different rooms, maybe even different floors. i know i would have to run the wires or whatever but that is not a problem. Does any one have any good ideas of how to do this? Also do all tv tuners require over the air broadcasts? I want to record straight from cable
  7. thank you very much for the replies. i have some more questions i hope you guys could answer. I am looking at this item. http://www.amazon.com/Hauppauge-1192-HVR-1...6797&sr=1-7 Would i would ideally like is to have a situation where i would have "tivo" like ability using a designated hard drive on my computer as the storage location. Would using something like this or other PRV device allow me to record and fast forward and pause live tv. I would like to have it setup for my wife to where when she uses the tv she would have no idea that the computer is actually doing the "tivo" stuff and that it would function just like cable DVR, ect.
  8. alright how does something like that compare to using slingbox or something of that nature? Also with PRV is this only necessary if i want to capture satellite tv? if i just want to record basic cable stations in hi-def is this the only product that does this?
  9. i would like to turn my pc into a media center where i can basically use the hard drive as a dvr. is a tv card required? strong recommendation? what are the best steps taken. programs recommended to do this. i am running windows xp.
  10. well it is not an error message pop-up. it is at the screen which allows you to choose what hard drive to install vista on. i have 3 drives and 1 of them has a partition on it. is indicates that a primary IDE Channel is missing for all the drives and allows me to search my hard drive for the driver. i downloaded the driver for my controller but when i tried to install it everything went find fine and vista went through the install process. however after it appeared to install it went back to the screen asking me to choose a hard drive to install vista and again all the drives where missing the primary IDE Channel... its a p45 chipset. i have actually installed the beta version of vista on this same system years ago with no issues.
  11. alright i was going to give vista a try...but i cannot get past the setup screen... vista is complaining about the need for a primary IDE channel. what does it want from me? I am installing vista on a older dell system (that still meets min vista requirements).
  12. thanks ripken you have convinced me
  13. @ripken204 Thanks for the reply The video card is a 8800gts I left of the S (typo) Is there a particular reason to go for muskin over corsiar? i see the muskin base price is cheaper than corsairs but corsair is cheaper after the repate they are running. also corsair comes with a flow fan for the memory. I actually did look at the ASUS P5Q Deluxe because it is closer to what i want but i was worry about the memory standard is ddr2 1200. ddr2 1066 is backward compatible i assume but i am worried about having issues with detection and so forth and running at proper speeds? ripken have you ever run 1066 memory in a 1200 standard motherboard?
  14. That's it what piece of a new computer so you invest the most money?

About the mother board. It comes with a sound card but i already have a X-FI Extreme Music Card I plan to use. Is there another comparable mother board that supports 1066 DDR2 Memory that is good quality it the price range of this mother board? 2. How common is the DDR2 1066 memory i do not see alot of it around. is this a dieing breed? Also there are alot of mother boards that support DRR2 1200 memory but i see there is very little out there. 3. In looking at the specs are there any items that in your opinion that over power another component of the completed system? For example mother board over powers CPU or Video Card poorly matches mother board ect. 4. This price range of this system is about $1300. Do you recommends placing more $$ in one component and less on another?
