  1. actually it was running with a 3.06 before as for opening up the cpu it is made so you can change it on these laptops it's just 4 screws on the back with a plate then remove the fan 4 other scrwes iwill try reinstalling OS again though one more thing after i istalled the chipset driver like you told me too i saw it go up to 1.605 when running the test with prime 95 will reistall OS then i will post again for news
  2. You said you had updated the BIOS, but have you reinstalled the chipset drivers? (I know HP has them... my Compaq does)- done my motherboard is a intel 865pe andi dl'd the chipset and i downloaded th infinst.exe driver A few questions may help put things in order: How did the original CPU go bad? it did not i gave it to my brother Was it covered under warranty? yes If not, did you replace the CPU yourself? yes Did you replace the CPU with the same one you had? i have no idea if it was the same i baught a p4 3.06 512k/533 fsb and appearently it is a mobile Did you buy it from HP or from a third-party? third party hp would charge like 700$ Did you check to see that the CPU you bought was compatible with the HP motherboard? (If the CPU is a different model)i did not actually i will do that but if it is booting correctly it should be the right one if not it would not accept it what should i do ...thank you so much for all the help you are giving me i did see it go up to 16.05 after the chipset install

  5. thanks dude for the advise but i tried that and it will still show 1.6 in system folder and bios i guess it is normall at this point. I think the cpu before was not a p4-m like you say I wanna know is it normall though it says in bios 1.6 although it is a 3.06... and even if it does not show 3.06 i feel like it is running very fast but htere is no way to check at what speed it is running right let's say you burn a cd obviously the speed should go to 1.8 or even 2.0 ghz thnaks for your time and help let mek now if you have any other advise for me
  6. hi every1 gotta little problem. ireplaced my laptop cpu a pavilion zd7000 series notebook. I use to have a 3.06 cpu in there and it died out baught a new one P4 3.06 533fsb/512k and now when i right click on my computer ---- properties , in system properties under general it says: genuine intel ® CPU 3.06 1.6 ghz 512 mb of ram My question is wy does it say 1.6 if I have a 3.06 it does not show on my brothers laptop. I have updated the bios Then iwent into bios to maybe change some settings in there but nothing can be changed and in the bios it alsoo says 1.6 for some reason I talked to the person who sold me the CPU and he sent me a mail: it's a mobile CPU, you have to set it to max performance in order for it to run at 3.06 can any1 help me out plz or knows how to set it's max performance...cause in bios i can't chnage anything it's like you can only change the date and time
