  2. me too! Can I get one pleeaaaseee I use Trillian a lot but i'd like to test M$'s latest stuff too... send to cpmdxe135 AT removeThIsGmail dot Com
  3. Happy birthday ! It's a wonderful community here.
  4. I believe it is more optimized because after configuring Server 2003 to act as a workstation (and turning on many services) to make it act like XP, it still functions faster than a default XP SP2 installation (with some services disabled)... Edit: The kernel is defined as NTKRNLPA.EXE or NTOSKRNL.EXE as well as other select core system files (like winlogon.exe), it handles memory allocation and interaction with hardware through the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) which is chosen and installed during setup... At least, that's what I saw on my machine (2.6GHz Northwood HT / 512 MB PC3200 DDR RAM)
  5. LinkDotNet (Egypt) http://www.link.net/ Currently 256Kbps/64Kbps, but I hope to get 512Kbps/128Kbps soon.... My opinion: They're great... when they work correctly... Been experiencing slowdowns and some disconnections lately.... (Their dial-up however is excellent and free - but slow @ 44 kbps) (w00t - 100th post !!!)
  6. I have tried Server 2003 and here's what I found: 1. Server is initially faster at bootup because by default lots of services are disabled, but if you enable the stuff you need its memory usage will be almost the same as that of Windows XP 2. It does seem to be faster, but that's because all visual effects are disabled and DirectX is turned off, but once enabled, it's almost as fast as XP 3. There are some important features missing (unlike the Welcome screen, now that's ok to be missing) like: - No UPnP support (which is a nightmare for configuring every single port manually on router's NAT. (unless someone fixes this i will stay with xp) So my verdict is: Yes the NT 5.2 kernel is more optimized than NT 5.1 (that's why Vista will use it so that it builds on 2k3 server not XP) but the OS that this kernel is in (2k3 server) leaves something to be desired in terms of compatibility... - If someone could just port the NT5.2 kernel to XP, everything would be perfect ! Else, I will stick to either XP or Linux (MEPIS)
  7. You mean obfuscated ? That means that the code inside WINNT.EXE has been changed in such a way that reverse-engineering it will either fail or produce incomprehensible results.... Google for Code Obfuscation to understand more... But it would be cool if solved though, then we can have REALLY customized Windows versions...
  8. This problem appears for me on Windows XP Service Pack 2, (and I have Unicode enabled)....
  9. It works for me in IE too, so this is a Fx1.5 bug/problem... A simple workaround is to make sure that the feed doesn't have extended characters (like the "u" or alpha ... etc.) and it will for fine in Fx1.5... I'll report this in the MozillaZine forum...
  10. I have the same issue too, but have been able to somehow isolate the reason... This started happening with FireFox 1.5, whenever there is a non-standard character in the feed (ex: the "u" in uTorrent) FireFox is unable to parse the XML feed and I get "Live Bookmark feed failed to load..." and when I go directly to: http://www.msfn.org/modules.php?modname=backend&action=rdf I get this:
  11. I don't like Nero 7 ! IMO Nero 7 = Nero 6 + (Super duper cool colourful memory hog UI) + ridiculous bloat + lots'a little bugs to keep the fun from dying !! and a 100 MB download to boot!! How better can it get !! I'm sticking with Nero 6.6.0.18, works perfectly and not bloated
  12. Me: Every 6 months or less on my real PC (but maybe once or twice daily on VMware)... Just because Bill Gates says not to. (but also to learn, to get more fps and save resources too...) Apply the hotfixes without reinstalling. Unless there's a radical upgrade like Windows XP Service Pack 3 or something...
  13. I don't like Java as programs created with it are relatively slow and memory consuming... But its cross-platform capabilities (plus it runs fast enough in Linux), and the Grasshopper project that converts .NET into Java are good points... But I still don't like Java, Java sites are very slow... @ sonu now its 21:22 !
  14. Actually the driver clearly is for 32-bit CPUs... But you can try here: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp if you have any driver related problems... Anyway, glad you fixed your problem...
  15. Do you have an nVidia Card ? There was a bug in the release before 77.77 that caused this issue... Try updating to the latest drivers (81.85) from here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.85.html
  16. World of Warcraft (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) MMORPG
  17. Personally, Pepsi is very common here and Cocacola is a bit sparse, but i like cola better, Pepsi tastes sweet at first then there's this strange taste that appears in my mouth that makes me sick.... Cocacola doesn't seem to have that...(and it tastes a bit lighter)... I guess different people like different things... (Random Gene Distribution)...
  18. Internet Explorer ?!?! big deal...., I’m in pain waiting for FireFox 1.5 ! Now that’s a wonderful thing to be anxious for ... @ScubaSteve: You’re right, the world IS coming to an end !!!! The 2 giants (M$ and Google) will start a war and sweep the whole world away in it !!
  19. "Lock your Lease" This means to configure the DHCP server (on the router) to always give you the same IP address every time you connect to the network (similar to static addresses, but without the hassle of manual configuration)... It may not actually solve the problem, but it is a good suggestion nevertheless... And yes, my ISP here is LinkDotNet and i have the same experience... The upload/download speed doesn't decrease too much but during the day the DNS Resolution becomes very slow....
  20. Are using the famous (Alcatel SpeedTouch 510v4) router ? and btw, try accessing the router's web interface, disconnecting and reconnecting the line... Also if you are running Windows XP Service Pack 2, go to Add/Remove programs, Windows Components, Networking and uninstall the Internet Gateway Device Discovery component and make sure Universal Plug and Play is enabled... - Try an IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS followed by IPCONFIG /RELEASE and IPCONFIG /RENEW then go to the router's DHCP server and lock both of your leases.... and finally, does this happen in Internet Explorer and/or FireFox ? Did you upgrade to Opera 8.50 (which is now freeware)?
  21. I think the idea is not very hard, if someone uses the standard Microsoft hotfix installer, uses its UPDATE.INF to copy the files from the Update Pack CAB file and register its CAT files, then it can work, RyanVM Update Pack will be applied as a hotfix... (Like the Unofficial Windows XP Service Pack someone here created earlier)
  22. @leonx81, - Are you trying to edit a UPX'd WINNTBBU.DLL, as i got your exact same error when i tried to edit the pictures of my WINNTBBU.DLL (which is compressed by UPX)...? When I load the UPX'd winntbbu.dll into winntbbu.dll it loads fine but errors when trying to save and corrupts the upx'd winntbbu.dll file..
  23. Free Download Manager (http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/) Combines features of ReGet and GetRight and is absolutely free (not to mention very small and light on resources)
