Thanks RJM thats was the problem. ME ver. 4.90.0.3000 now works with 98se! Hope MDGx adds this REG to 98SE2ME, because I had not remove any VarDID entrys from reg. THANKS AGAIN--I'm saving that file in case that does show up again.

MDGx, Don't know when it happen , but setupx.dll ver. 4.90.0.3000 dosen't work with 98SE--reinstalled ver. 4.10.0.2222--works fine--go back to new extract of ver. 4.90.0.3000 dosen't work-ERROR rundll with setupx.dll when you use ADD/REMOVE in control panel windows SETUP. Seems like ver. 4.10.0.2222 only works. Have 98sesp and 98se2me + option #3. Also have 98lite chubby which adds too windows setup panel. Its been awhile since I used windows setup, so I don't know what ver. of 98SE2ME it stop working in. As for now I'm using ver. 4.10.0.2222

Tried that, but from CD which is a full install same as whats installed--used a setup boot floppy. Also I have option #3 from 98SE2ME installed-- I think it thinks its a ME system and thats why it wants an upgrade CD to over write OS.

Hi, I need to reinstall 98se over installed 98se version, but when I try it saids that this is a FULL version CD and you need a upgrade CD. Have made lots of changes to my version and would not like to do a new install, but just over write files I have. I know that their is a way around this message, but can't remember how--This comes after I have put in Product Key and it runs for awhile-- even used foppy boot disk same thing. HELP!

ME shell + explorer probably do decrease stability, because it is possible that certain ME API functions may not be properly supported by 98SE.That's the other reason why I keep option 3 separate. READ1ST.TXT, under the "EXTREMELY IMPORTANT" + "98SE2ME.PIF COMPLETE GUIDE" [the "* Option 3:" paragraph] chapters, contains a little hint: CAUTION: WinME files installed by option 3 may change/lose Win98 SE interface functionality! You may also want to ask Tihiy, he's the author of Revolutions Pack, based on API functions from ME + XP. Hope this helps. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> MDGx, How do you back out of option 3-- I reinstalled explorer+shell32+comdlg32 and ran your ZIP files -- the one "To fix the Start button issue" W98SE.BAT(W98SE.INF) and this made START button work except SEARCH, but MY COMPUTER default is now -SEARCH- and FOLDER when you click are the default OPEN HERE COMMAND. How do you change the default for MY COMPUTER and FOLDERS--right click and you can select OPEN and it works, but can't set as default--this is not set in register anywhere and FILE TYPES can't set it? Does this have anything to do with DESK.CPL? Versions for the explorer,shell32 and comdlg reinstalled from 98CD with SFC. Any HELP here for this?

When you update with RC2, do you need to rerun 98SE2ME to have latest files on 98SE2ME?

If you have installed option 3, just go to "task bar and start menu properties" control panel or tool bar -- and click on ADVANCED tab, then check "display logoff " - "APPLY" then uncheck "display logoff" - "APPLY". Seems to understand only after checking and unchecking. You can also use RESHACKER on EXPLORER and remove shutdown button from start menu, then put "shutdown button" and "restart button" in quick launch toolbar.
