  1. I have downloaded with IE both those two archives I had uploaded and they open and extract fine with both 7-Zip and Izarc. Next time please avoid making three posts in a row for the same thing and append new material instead by editing your first post as I have just done with this one. Tried all versions of 7-zip and latest version of winrar, also one other program #7z, but can not open your files (Regutils or Regdoc ) . Can open any other .7z files that I down load, so it seems to be your files when I down load them. Any other format you could put them in? Sorry about not editing my post, your right I need to do that next time. I had not done that before, again I'm sorry. Thanks for your help - Charlie
  2. From 7 Zip-- " Why can't 7-Zip open some ZIP archives? In 99% of these cases it means that the archive contains incorrect headers. ZIP archives contain two copies of headers. 7-Zip reads both copies and won't open archives with incorrect data in the headers. Other ZIP programs can open some archives with incorrect headers, since these programs usually read only one copy of the headers, or they just ignore errors. If you have such archive, please don't call the 7-Zip developers about it. Instead try to find the program that was used to create the archive and inform the developers of that program that their software is not ZIP-compatible. There is now also an extension to the ZIP format for strong encryption (AES) support. The next version of 7-Zip will support it. You can try the AES feature in the latest beta version of 7-Zip." But can't find what "AES" is , and where access to it is in the latest beta version ?
  3. Can't open any of your files on rapidshare.com with 7-Zip (*.7z) ? Charlie
  4. Funny, I can't open it with 7zip ? (http://rapidshare.com/files/57327311/RegUtils.7z) I think something is wrong witj the downloaded file -- try twice both files won't open. Charlie
  5. Okay, it was IE6 problem -- reinstalled browser and that fix the Flash problem. Seems funny that this was the only site with this problem that I could find, it must have been some setting it was looking for in the register that was missing or set wrong? --Charlie
  6. Must be something to do with IE6 (or what ever version it thinks its seeing from the register)! Have uninstalled flash and reinstalled several times but still it does not work. Will only take me to adobe site --redirect--?? Charlie
  7. OK first remember that Auto-Patcher is an automatic hotfix installer so the problem should lie in one of the updates, not in AP itself. Are you saying that simply installing AP (but not running it) causes this problem, or are you saying after you have patched your system with AP that the problem arises ... which one is it? No, just not installing but after I run it, so right its in an update - also noticed that hotplug.dll was a little larger in size, but version was unchanged, so I replaced it with old hotplug.dll and no help. Also deleted hotplug.dll (all of them) and icon still shows up in tray? Disabled system tray and icon does not show up and no warning when disconn. storage device. What file displays this icon - its in hotplug.dll, but must now run from some other file? ProcessExplorer does not list it as running? So if I knew which file kick it off I might locate the problem. Thanks Any help here, or is this a problem with just my system. regsvr32 doesn't load hotplug.dll. This file is what disconn. storage device - and not what loads icon to tray, so I assume its a problem with it being registered.

Are you saying that simply installing AP (but not running it) causes this problem, or are you saying after you have patched your system with AP that the problem arises ... which one is it? Assuming it's not a problem simply installing AP, we need to find out which update is causing the fuss. Can you please see if you can narrow down which update it is, and also, when you report any errors in the running of AP, please post your log file and or report file text so i can see which modules you were trying to run. See the recent posts by Nathanson1947 where he doesn't always say much, but he does always attach his log files that tell me lots and lots about what he was doing when the problems occurs. This makes helping him very easy and makes me happy to help ... all you are saying at present is in effect "Auto-Patcher isn't working for some reason" and i need more info to properly help ... cheers. 9. Soporific, After installing Autopatch my hotplug icon in the status bar (system tray) does not work. Clicking on it does not bring up a window to kill my USB conn. So when I close down my GPS or camera, I get the warning window that I should have use the system icon to close before unplugging device. Removing and installing drivers did not help, even merging a registry backup does not fix it. Backup with registry and files does still work(without Autopatch). So with the right drivers and right registry over Autopatch, it does not work, but with the old files and no Autopatch installed, it does work. This seems to be the standard hotplug icon in the system tray for disconn. storage devices - any ideals on a solution? Thanks, Charlie
  10. Search registry for "IsShortcut" and replace with "IsNotShortcut".This will fix all your shortcut arrows to none. The best fix for this problem. If when you run a program that updates and breaks this, just go back and find where it puts "IsShortcut" back along with your "IsNotShortcut" and delete the extra "IsShortcut".
  11. Question - Why does the "Microsoft Windows Pop-Up Program Support" keep poping up durning the running of Auto Patch, have to keep shutting down the pop-up windows so the reboot does not hang?Has this always happened? Does this always happen? Does this happen if you don't change the color scheme? I think it's a bug in the new color scheme option -- i'll look into it ... 1. Yes - this always happened - lots on first install - only one on last install. 2. Did change color, but it happen on first install too. do you load ANSI in your system startup? Look in Config.sys and Autoexec.bat and see if there is any reference to ANSI and report back please. 3. No - and not in Config.sys or Autoexec.bat Also some of us don't have Outlook on our machine and have to go back and delete all the stuff that gets install my Auto patch - should be an option or check if its on your system. That's a good point, others have made it as well, i'll add this to my to do list ... so can i confirm, in your case you have totally removed Outlook Express so the file named MSIMN.EXE is nowhere to be found on your computer? 4. Yes - and do not have this file on my system.

OTHER NEWS I have had a report of a problem in the Essential 3rd Party Apps module with the latest Flash update (i said i wouldn't include, i lied!) ... has anybody else downloaded the 1.96 preview and tried to run the above module? Did you by-pass Flash? If not, did you get the result below? Thanks in advance for any help tracking this down... Yes--got the same thing--charlie
  14. Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1 can not run IE6UPD.exe without getting : "The version of Internet Explorer you have installed does not match the update you are trying to install" where is this being read in the register and what ver. should it read to run? I have installed 98sesp2.1a and 98se2me and internet explorer 6 on top of windows 98se. Charlie
  15. Has anyone been able to download and run Google Earth on 98se? I know it needs Broadband for speed, so how to make it see ver. XP instead of 98se and download. Hope it doesn't use to much resources. THANKS if any cares about running this apps.
  16. In the Start Menu - use search command - in Folder or Files line put " * .cab ", and in Files Containing line put the file you are looking for - like " explorer.exe " all with out quotes. Charlie
  17. What does this mean - do I delete old *.inf and replace with the new *me.inf since they are the newer files and this update was to install the new *.inf -- ONLY IF THAT FILE WAS NOT ON DRIVE even if it was older? THANKS, Charlie
  18. Thought you had to also replace with Explorer the 95's ver. of COMDLG32.DLL and SHELL32.DLL at the same time?
  19. MDGx, When installing option 3 it now dosen't ask for backup so no 98a files are created--option 2 does ask for backup. I installed option 2 with backup then option 3 on clean install of 98se/fresh drive and wasn't ask for backup on 3 so no backup files for 3 were created just 2. Hope this helps the find problem.
  20. MDGx, I have tried without success in backing out of OPTION 3, but ADD/REMOVE option 3 dosen't work. I did a fresh install of 98se on new drive and then 98se2me option 1 with backup--then option 3 with backup. Now I tried thru control panel--ADD/Remove option 3 and it didn't work (just a quick batch window and thats it). I also looked for explorer.98a and any other files *.98a, but their not there. Is their a batch file I can use with new files off 98 CD to back out of explorer ME on a drive with OS that I would like to keep. I have tried putting old files back and registering them, but system has many glitches and seem to be unstable. These were all copies and I have the orig. one I would like to save if I could backup on the option 3. THANKS, charly
  21. Great--it doesn't freeze while initializing the desktop anymore! Everthing seems to run fine and installation was smooth. Couldn't be happer!!! THANKS for all the work and speed in fixing any problem. Don't know how you do it.
  22. Same here, but it has been happening since 6-30 ver.--but when you ctrl alt del and it trys to start in safe mode and you move to normal mode it starts in Windows and update files. The file it skipped on you was SYSDM.CPL just go to 9me folder and move it out to replace yours with new 98 2nd Edition title in System Properties general tab. I thought that their was something wrong on my computer when it keeps hanging when it rebooted into windows--I get a blank screen with the hourglass that just sits their running until you ctrl-alt-del. Once done everything is just fine. Glad to know its not just my OS!
