Firstly install VMTools. If it appears to hang then use Task Manager to switch to the unsigned driver message and agree to that. Then, if you go to DeviceManager and get to the NIC - update driver. Browse to the folder under c:\program files for VMTools\drivers\network (going by memory here so be kind). It should now update the driver to VMware enhanced or summat like that. Should now work.
