This could go the bios as well. If you have a spare floppy drive, try replacing it and see what happens! Myself personally, I do not have a floppy drive I don’t see much point as CD's are so much quicker and relatively cheap or a USB data stick, although you may have a reason for using a floppy drive?

Create a shortcut to devmgmt.msc Welcome to MSFN

Windows, for some strange reason, seems to look at the floppy drive occationaly. If there is a problem with the hardware, windows could be seeming something but is not sure what it is and so tries to access it. The problems sounds to me as if the read/write heads on the floppy drive have gone. For the £7-8($5) or so I'd just buy a new floppy drive. This is usually the case with when it tries to format an already formatted disk. Taggs

This post may be in the wrong Section. Try Windows XP or Harware Hangout!

Has the PC been rebuilt? Does it then still continue to freeze? as boooggy says it may be a drivers problem. It could also be over heating, Check the temperature! It could be faulty memory. Try swapping the memory. Welcome to MSFN

RIS install. Need to uncheck "Reboot Automatically
Taggs replied to Skeeter6755's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
If the system is blue screening, the first thing that springs to mind is drivers for the hardware! Are you installing 2003 server or installing using 2003 server, or maybe both !! Have a look at your driver set, inparticular the chip set and hdd (if using scsi disks) drivers. I dont think trying to stop the reboot will help! Taggs -
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/doc.jm/WU5-ERR.htm Looks like the install data for sp4 is corrupt so it will not un-install.

@Sh4dow Did you try the util I found? Reset the password to nothing using
-
Sounds like it could be a virus of some sort. Have you tried updating your pattern file and running a full virus scan on all drives?
-
I've tried with MS Word and MS Excel files but it seems to find nothing.

Removed!

We are starting to look into a server consolidation project. Can anybody suggest any other software besides VMware and MS Virtual server. Thanks

Have you tried NT drivers? http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/215789/v...e-download.html

I always try and search google first, then search the forum, but sometimes I get too many misleading results and i can't be bothered to wade through them all so I post and new topic.

Put me down for RIS as well. I use it to build 4500+ PC's over 80 sites. (takes some time over a slow link but you could put RIS on a laptop and take it to site if you wanted). We have integrated SP2, latest patches and also installs all are standard apps (MS Office) and clients (Citrix, novel, e-mail, Java, anti virus....) We run both Novel and MS servers and it works great. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=36833&st=10 Have a look here for my documentation for setting up the server.

I heard of XP2 causing problems with the install of some games. Chaser being one of them. Trying removing SP2 and then installing games. Then reinstall SP2! Taggs

You can d/l a linux util from the web that will reset any users password for XP and W2k. I use it on a regular basis and it works great for me http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ I hope this helps.

A user has a problem where if you search for text in a document it never finds any documents! Start > Search > Documents > Use advanced search options > a word or phrase in the document. Enter a word here and start searching! The PC finishes searching but never finds any documents. Even with a test document set up. If you search for the document itself it finds it fine. This works fine on various other PC's. Any Idea's ?!?!? Thanks
