Does anybody know of any tools (preferably free) to force WSUS to update NOW (this second and not when I can be bothered to). WUAUCLT.exe, with all it's various options, does not do this before anybody says Taggs

It's a Clone Laptop from our suppliers. They buy the bit and build the laptop/PC's for us as and when required. I did have a similar problem with on-board NIC. It worked fine for 12 months then one day stopped working. I installed a PCI 3com NIC and it worked fine again. It may even be something to do with it being a 10/100/1000 NIC (some thing I read some where on the net!) but its strange why it worked for so long and then stopped This, of course, is not really an option on a laptop!

I'm not sure if it is just me or a problem for everybody? When writing a post, if I don't add the smilies in with the text (or highlight a space) and go back and add it later at various points it adds the smilies at the end of the text. Does that make sense? IE if I move my cursor to a point where I want to add a smilie it inserts it at the end of the section. If I hightlight a space (press of the space bar) by left click of the mouse and drag over the space it adds the smilie in the correct postion.

Sorry if I didn't explain myself very well. I'm after option 1. IE I only need to install sql 2000 once and do not need to install sp4 separately afterwards!

Hi Andy, thanks for that. I'd already tried editing the files and that didn't work and I've copied both of the latest sys and inf files from the broadcom web site but still it hangs. I've even tried with older versions on the files but still nothing) I'm begining to think it may not be a drivers problem. I think I'll start to building a fresh image peice by peice and see where it falls over. Thanks anyway but keep that thinking cap on!

I'll have a look at the BIOS settings and have a "play" with them. Desktops are using Intel chip set and ATA. I've also just tried an autobuild from a DVD and it still does the same thing . (Just to make sure it's nothing to do with the Network side of things)

My Image is just a bog standard XP Pro SP2 (and a couple of updates), it works fine on PC's but not on Laptops. NIC = Broadcom 4401 Chip Set = Intel 855PM/ ICH4-M Video = ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 with 64MB memory

I have posted this in the wrong place by accident and I have asked a mod to move it.

I'm trying to install and image on a laptop @ work. The server lets me log on, select image etc etc etc. It copies initial files but when it gets to the stage when it says "Setup is Starting Windows" thats as far as it gets! I have the correct drivers installed on the image. Any Idea's?

Forgot to say that I have also tried to deploy the image after net stop binlsvc net start binlsvc but the files still do not appear.

Hi, I've updated some NIC drivers on my RIS image/s and then net stop binlsvc net start binlsvc but the PFN files do not appear. I've deleted old PNF files and again stopped and started the service but they do not reappear. Has anybody seen this before? Maybe I'm more stupid than I already think I am! Taggs P.S. PC's are now arriving nicely. I do have a problem where 1 is not updating but it maybe something to do with it is a virtual machine!?!

The server is still not seeing the computer but the client daigs are now saying UseWuServer is enabled..........Pass. We are getting closer...

The Test Group is all ready created. I have changed the UseTargetGroup to 1 and re-run the /detectnow but still nothing. I've also re-run the Client diag....Still get all the same results as before

Hi, I've just installed WSUS on a SUS server. Migrated all info across etc etc. but before I decomission SUS from the server, I want to test WSUS on a small number of clients. To start off with I thought I'd get my own connected to it but thats where I have got stuck. I've configured my client via a registry entry. Done a redetect from my pc but nothing. Can anybody help me please. Below are my registry settings... I've also tried with the IP address, instead of server name but still nothing. Thanks Taggs
