yep have checked services and workstation are running not sure what you mean by set newtwork settings to automatic unless u mean from managing my computer/services if so yes they are all set to auto. Still doesnt work but thanks for your reply and help

Hi I sure hope someone out there has a answer to my problem! Ive created a home network between 2 pc's both running XP home, they both recognise each other, one is called bell(pain) and other compaq(butt), compaq can access bell but bell cant access compaq with the error message: Logon failure the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer all users names are the same, the network is called workgroup theres no discrepancies in names of users or network pc's and as u can see above each pc has a unique name. SO after 3 days of hair pulling and searching the net all the forums say the solution is to change the settings in admim tools, local security policy settings, my problem is my computer doesnt have local policy settings in admin tools folder!!!! No one mentions wat to do under those circumstances. only thing it has apart from main admin tools ie services is netframework please help.
